Return to Infinite Space (Weird Worlds)
« on: January 12, 2006, 07:34:58 pm »

I've had a little play on this and I must say it's addictive. It costs $20 I think but it offers a good.. how do I put this, Imperium Galactica 2 mixed with Star Control gameplay.

It even has roughly the same humour as Star Control, for example some items have "You find a capsule with the note "So long and thanks for all the fish". Tongue Or when you kill a Kwangi ship (like bigass mothership) afterwards it says "you congratulate all of your members by opening a tin of soybeans and sharing it between the crew" and other hillariousness. They even pun off other games like "Mucron of Lexcorp offers you some Tiberian moonshine.." lol.

The good thing about the game is that it can be modded. For example I could make it into a Star Con mod, Star Wars mod (already done) and a lot of others. What WOULD be excellent is if this could be modded for multiplaying. I seriously hope someone tries the demo becuase this is a great game.

Whoops, heres the right game (theres 2 versions!)

I played the demo for this game, it was lots of fun!

Do you think it's worth the purchase?
I think the 10-30 min. total gaming time is appealing, but I'm worried that it might get repetitive after a while.

I've heard nothing but good things about this game, I should probably give it a whirl sometime. It's made by Shrapnel Games, right? I've liked some of their stuff in the past.

"Do you think it's worth the purchase?"

He said you can mod it, so I don't think you can resist.

It looks more interesting than EV Nova, which cost something like 30 MUs.

FWIW, I bought the game fairly early on and played it quite a bit for about a week or two (maybe 2 hours a day?), after which point it got quite boring and now holds no appeal at all.  It has a lot of charm but isn't very deep at all and the interface seems deliberately designed to impede serious play.  After day three or four of playing, you will have seen everything the game has to offer, although the hardcore players seem to get some pleasure out of breaking the balance / interface in tactical battles with various exploits.

I suppose it's worth the $20 and with modding there could be some possibilities for more fun.  I'd think your money would be better spent on other games (like Avernum II), but for space games like this, there ain't many choices.  Apparently Space Rangers 2 is awesome, but hard to obtain.
