That Precursors Remix stuff ROCKS!!!
« on: January 14, 2006, 10:57:28 pm »

Whoever did the Mycon Rebirth remix and the starbase remix... even my wife now likes playing this old antiquated game just to hear the music, and she has it playing in her car.

This stuff is on the level with the likes of Necros and Basehead of Five Musicians as far as quality is concerned... and you can pretty much fit everyone in the world who matches them into a telephone booth, at arms' length.

Thank you! It's always nice to hear about people enjoying our music. There are still some remixes missing, but keep watching this forum in the upcoming weeks. Smiley

I sure hope your new remixes are as dramatic and sweeping as these current ones.

You know, in the Japanese anime series "Macross", one of the most glaringly obvious but tragically un-addressed points of the story line was the conjecture beings could be controlled by the power of music. Once in a blue moon you find artists who manage to make you think that's actually true.

Heh. I like the remixes too, but it strikes me as a perfect example of how tastes vary that the two songs you used as an example are my least favourite remixes.

It is interesting. It seems that the precursors have a song or two to fit all tastes.

My personal favorites are:
1. Starbase - Under a Red Sky
2. Hyperspace - Across The Galaxy

I consider the starbase track in particular to be on par with my favorite Pink Floyd songs, which I should hope is high praise indeed.  Grin

For me, that's about as high as praise gets. Cheesy

You have surpassed any other music in the whole world. In fact, I rarely listen to anything other then precursors. And I'm not exagerating. I hold you guys about the same as Prokofiev and Stravinski.

I could say favorite tracks but I've really grown to love all of them. Sometimes I love the obscure Riku tracks and the looooong Jouni tracks just because they are less liked by everyone else. I don't get board of the orbit and exploration themes ever, and I can't get Corridor Nine stuck out of my head.

Yeah, that might be my favorite, too. It is very hard to pick a single one, though.

Kudos! ! !

Yeah, that song goes in my "a MORTAL composed that?" file right up there with Macross Plus's "Pulse" / "After, in the Dark", Sarah Brightman's "Beautiful" and Delerium's "Enchanted" (in my book). These guys could make Yoko Kanno sweat.

I just got finished listening to the swaggering All Evil Ilwrath theme. Man, how do they do it? And the Ultra-Gross! Vux theme... aw heck, I might as well just queue up all these tracks and take out the one or two ditty ones I don't like.

Does anyone remember the demo scene / trax community? Back in the 1990s the made tons of free songs that would blow away what you hear on the radio by a long shot. Look up Pinion, Five Musicians, Maelcum, DJ Skyjump, etc., the Precursors sure as heck remind me of when I used to trawl in the trax archives for new, awesome stuff.

Ok I sound like I'm kissing butt, but really, I don't have any reason to... good music is good music, and you have to understand, I get stuck with listening to my old faves over and over again, or to Britney Spears on the radio when I go to work. It's like eating cheap roach coach food and then going to Waikiki one day and dining at the Prince Kuhio hotel. For those who haven't been there, Hawaii's food is especially fresh and that volcano soil makes stuff tasty as all GET OUT. If you have been eating TV dinners for years, you might want to bring a really, really big appetite because even their Denny's is slammin'. But anyway, that's what this music does to my ears.  Grin

Funny you should mention the tracking scene. I know at least the two of us who are part of Medieval Future composed music for the Scene back in the 90s. Great times!

So what are you going to be composing after this? What software did you use? Where'd you get your samples? And by jones where'd you learn how to compose like that?

Hey, come on. Neither of us can hold a candle to Prokofiev or Stravinsky. Really.

Hell yeah! The tracker scene, for me mostly represented by the Trax in Space community (I was member #637, iirc), was really vibrant in the 1990s. Every day something new and interesting would come out. I still miss those days.

About the only people from those days I still keep watch on, are Hellven, Skaven/FC and Xerxes, (2).
