Escaping from combat
« on: December 16, 2002, 11:32:49 pm »

Can anyone tell me how to hyperspace out of combat? The manual txt says it's SPACE and the numpad + together, but that doesn't seem to work for me.

Well, in the older times (original version) i think it was simpy, escape, but it tells you that when you talk with the guy at the earth station after you give them the minerals they need and they modify your precourser vessel...  hit escape and see if it works... they MIGHT have changed it...  lol i havent had time to really play the new version yet!  but i tell you what, when i got DSL back it was THE FIRST file over 20 mb that i downloaded!!! i was SOOO EXCITED to see they made a revamp of the old masterpeice... its like THE BEST game i have EVER played in my LIFE! :-) hopefully that will work for you!

Nope, Esc doesn't work either.

You want Numpad-+, Escape, and Space, all at once.

That sucks... since I'm on a laptop I have to press Fn, +, esc, and space all at once. Oy.

Uh, shucks.  Maybe toggle your num-lock and try again?

I've always thought super-melee should have emergency escape buttons.  The point would be to use it in bad rock-paper-scissors mismatches, e.g. your arilou survives a battle with an enemy earthling cruiser, only to have your enemy bring out his Avatar and go get a drink while it toasts you.

The point of the hyperspace escape would be to let your outmatched ship run from such an engagement and return to the menu.  Later after you've dispatched the Avatar, you can send in your arilou against more vulnerable prey.

The mechanics would be similar: press a key, wait ten very tense seconds, warp out of there.  Sometimes you'd get nailed trying to warp out.  That's part of the fun.

The correct combination is Numpad + and space bar.  I do it in that order but I'm not sure the order matters.  I do know, though, that Esc is not required!

Rather than NumLock you might need to turn on your "Keypad Lock", to enable a numeric keypad within the main keyboard.  I think most laptops have this feature.  However it doesn't always work for things like this, and if that's the case you'll probably just have to wait for configurable keys.

If there's a button that locks on the secondary functions of my keyboard, I can't find it... grrrr, I wants me the Shofixti!  Angry

I'm in the same boat, playing on a laptop that is.  I struggled for a bit with this last night and I found that if you press and hold the spacebar and then hit Fn +, that seems to work.  For me anyway.

Just curious, and sorry if this is a stupid question (I know nothing about code), but how hard would it be to change the command for escaping combat?

I don't wanna wait for configurable keys.  Roll Eyes

I've tried Jimbo's suggestion, but I still can't get the escape sequence to work on my laptop. I've tried Function and +, function, +, and space, and just blindly hitting all the keys. any other suggestions?

Yeah, I have a suggestion but you're not going to like it.

Don't play on a laptop.  (at least until the key jammer is implemented )

I told you you wouldn't like it.   Tongue
