quite a few of those are horrifyingly ugly. Haha.. I'm the one who made these, although that was quite a few years ago, and I can agree that some are horrendous. I HAVE gotten better since then, though... and a lot of the ship images were actually taken from various people's 3D renderings on the PONF.
I could redo them from scratch in the near future... Maybe even (as a challenge) in 8-bit pixel art, to make them as close as possible to the style of the SC1 originals.
Another nice option would be to re-create the SC1 ship-specs in the form of 3D renderings (scaled down to game resolution), then add similar ones for the SC2 ships. Too bad I have absolutely zero experience with 3D (well, other than the UT2004 map editor).

"Space cannot be measured. It cannot be angered, it cannot be placated. It cannot be summed up. Space is there. "Space is not large and it is not small. It does not live and it does not die. It does not offer truth and neither does it lie. "Space is a remorseless, senseless, impersonal fact."

We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

Also, the stats boxes don't use the hollow boxes to indicate abnormal or irregular capabilities. For example, the Druuge should have a 'hollow' high energy regeneration and max speed.
I think most of them are OK. I didn't like the Thraddash, Chmmr, or Flagship, though... they tried to go for texture, which just isn't the point for these images.
As you said, it's in the models. Those models may be fine for other purposes, but not this one.

The SC2 3DO videos were made by PCA Graphics, but it seems unlikely that they hold the copyright (has anyone contacted these people?).
