savegame theory...
« on: February 08, 2006, 04:07:45 am »

If i were to "inject" a uqm saved game into the nvram file of a 3do console, would i be able to use UQM saves on 3do?

of course the sure fire way to figure that out would be to do it, but i wanna know if the save files are any different from eachother

Isn't UQM incompatible even with earlier versions of itself and itself on other-endian platforms? I don't think 3DO SC2 stands a chance of understanding UQM saves.

This is only partially true. The UQM savegames are compatible across the board from 0.1 up through now, but only within the same platform. That is, you can transfer savagames Linux <-> Windows, but not PC <-> Mac. So yes, other-endian systems cannot use your savegames.

I don't think 3DO SC2 stands a chance of understanding UQM saves.
Actually, 3DO SC2 stands a pretty good chance of understanding UQM saves. Smiley
AFAIK, none of us ever touched the savegame format so it should still be the same it was on 3DO. And since 3DO was a 32-bit platform, the types are probably the same too. However, since 3DO is BE, you will need Mac savegames if you want to attempt using them on 3DO.

Do you actually have the hardware to do this?

no but i thought about making my own hardware for it, using the Freedo for it's NVram saving ability and just overwrite the NVram in the 3DO.

But since i dont have a Mac...
well i could just emulate a mac  Grin
