I just had an amusing thought for a plot or subplot in the sequel. Or a possible explanation why you can defeat both of the Ur-Quan even though all you have done is destroy their most powerful ship. Right after the destruction of the Sa-Matra the Kohr-Ah still had enough ships to continue in their cleansing of the galaxy. So I believe you would have still lost.
The possible explanation is a new presence that arrives on the scene called “The Filth Alliance” A multi race alliance of revenge bent sentience that have joined together in a attempt to take their revenge upon the race the murdered their home worlds. They would consist primarily of long range expeditions that after a year or so out exploring they return to their home world to find it dead and incapable of sustaining life again. So they decide to find how ever did this evil act and kill them or die trying. They have been following the kohr-ah’s path of destruction and each time they find another dead world they would leave behind a probe with an explanation of what happened and where to join the fleet. And they finally caught up to the kohr-ah right after the destruction of the Sa-Matra.
Think about it. The kohr-ah claim to have cleansed over a thousand worlds now if 100 ships survive the destruction of each home world and 50 decide to join this alliance you would have over 50,000 ships thirsting for kohr-ah blood.

We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

Well, isn't THAT a coincidence? I figure there may be such people, but it would be a big coincidence if they showed up right then. Remember, the UQ and KA are defeated in weeks.
I figure that the Dnyarri's re-emergence and the destruction of the Sa-Matra broke down the command structure among the UQ, because the upper management had been so focused on the Doctrinal Conflict that they missed the signs right under their noses; and so trust in them was shattered. Morale and tendency to follow orders would be at a low point.
Armies which are not well-disciplined tend to get clobbered by those that are.

Pretty big coincidence indeed. Now, if they were to show up some years later, and you had to stop (or perhaps allow; think of the Ilwrath & Thraddash) a different racial cleansing, that would be an interesting thing.
I was always under the impression that a huge joint-strike by the Alliance, led by the Chmmr, was enough after the end of the game to take the remaining fight out of both Ur Quan fleets. After all, just the Utwig and Supox held them up for a year; a fleet composed af all alliance races could easily force them to surrender before long.

I still like the idea.
The idea that the Ur-Quan would go leaderless and disorganized is not as likely (in my opinion) as the idea that they would want to take revenge upon the race that destroyed the Sa-Matra.

I don't see the ending as a big surprise. The Chmmr probably have an approximate fleet as big as the Ur-Quan if you add in support from the Utwig, Supox, Syreen, Orz, Yehat, Pkunk and Zoq-Fot-Pik. That would be a fun war game to play from the Chmmr's side, though, wouldn't it?

i specifically remember it being explained in the PC version that the CHMMR decimated the ur quan with ease once they did not have to worry about their Sa Matra. Backed up by the other races of course.

decimate means to kill a tenth. so the ur-quan would still have 90 percent of their forces. Unless you ment to use another word?
Its funny how so much can depend on such a little thing as a word.

Nah, he probably meant to use that word seeing as the link you so helpfully provided also gives this alternate meaning:
3 a : to reduce drastically especially in number <cholera decimated the population> b : to destroy a large part of <firebombs decimated large sections of the city> Still, I'll grant it's funny how a word can mean such different things.

No no, he's right on that. It's an old Roman practice. When a division screwed something up badly enough, the commanding officer would randomly select 1 in 10 soldiers from the army and have them put to death. Or was it 1 in 10 of the field officers, and not the whole army? I forget exactly how that thing went. "Deci" or "deca" mean ten, hence decimate.
