The Battle of Organon, and other famous actions of the second war
« on: July 29, 2006, 12:14:35 am »

In the PC version, I distinctly recall that if you enter Organon while the mycon are there you will find them and the syreen duking it out;  Two squadrons from each side come together, only one returns blinking, occuring all over the system as multiple squadrons engage one another in glorious melee.  If you go there before the mycon make it completely there, there's still syreen flying around, warning you off.

I'm not sure, but I assumed that there would be similar places you could see this occur when, say the Utwig offensive begins, the Thraddash/Ilwrath war of mutual destruction, Doctrinal Conflict battles, the Yehat Civil War, etc.

Now, just yesterday I went and puttered around organon to participate in the battle... and it wasn't there.  Was this taken out of the 3DO version?

To be totally honest, i'm not sure if this is true or not;  I haven't played the PC version in a very long time, and this might only be a daydream of a demented kitten who can't tell what childhood daydreams and actual gameplay are anymore, but as certain as I can be, I believe it's true.

edit:  I just cheated my way on dosbox to the battle of organon and for the life of me I can't get it to show that battle there either.  Maybe I am just imagining things...

Memories messing around with you? Didn't you mean you want to talk about flowers?

But yeah, I never went there when the Mycon duked it out (the Ur-Quan re-release) but I'm not sure if it works in this version, anyone here who's tried it?

I think I tried this in the original PC version once. Didn't see any
Syreen ships flying around by themselves.
I'm guessing this one was a daydream.

Ya, I remember trying the same thing in UQM and, nope, no Syreen, just Mycon.

As I recall, there is only one exception to the "only one ship type in any given system" rule: The Sa-Matra guards. Also, I don't think there are any Syreen you can converse with other than Talana anywhere in the game; I don't recall seeing any additional dialog for them in the script. So yeah, this one is definitely a daydream.

It would have been neat if they could have worked alien battle sequences like this into the game, but alas.

Ah yes, and I still remember when the Thraddash equipped my flagship with an afterburner.

No joke, I said it on multiple occasions, Star Control is Eeeeevil.
