I particularly like the Yehat hug pictures. Very good detail and touching. I think I need a hug now. Everyone can use a hug! :O I think people need to hug more. Woah, sorry, I apparently was just possessed by a hippie.
Am I think only one that feels that the Utwig follow-up should have him with the old "CRAWLING IN MY SKIN!" tagline that seems to be representative of their angst? Also, am I the only one that feels like a goofy little "Punching Jelly" comic strip is in order? Funny you should mention Crawling! I've done a few (cough50+cough) livejournal icons fer SC2, aaaand http://www.ashido.com/livejournal/utwigtest.gif
I could argue that Dashboard is not emo but rather quite sappy acoustic pop, or maybe MTVemo, but that's a debate for another forum...hehe <rubs hands ruefully> Haha I dunno. I only have one song by them. I'VE JUST HEARD IT'S A VERY EMO BAND I'M SADLY A POSER :<
You know, it's an awesome pic, but I was thinking, shouldn't there be a "Zex's Beauty" doll too? just a thought. Good point! I should try giving the Beauty a try. I do love drawing monsters and stuff.
I especially loved the Yehat dying stars one -- the glowing eyes and the one Yehat in the background covering his eyes just make for a great picture. It quite captures how I felt while reading Honour too, actually. Heh, I wasn't sure if anyone would notice the Yehat in the back. :D Ah, so sad.
When I first played SC2 (I had played SC1 a loooong time ago, when I was a kid, and made up a large bunch of little stories about that universe, with some of my friends), and met the Yehat-turned-battle-thralls, man, that had an effect. I couldn't stop thinking about how far they had fallen, and couldn't help but sympathize with the Starship Clan Yehat, torn between two loyalties, and their ambiguous honour code. Before I read Honour, I thought a bit about how it must have been for them, forced to choose between loyalty and doing what is right, and being bound to do something they knew and felt to be wrong. I felt sad for them. And I just loved it when I showed them a live Shofixti, and when they come running with the cavalry in the end. I never played SC1 before playing SC2, so I think the impact of it was lost a little on me, but I always really sympathized with their dilemma and the emotional turmoil that that kind of decision would have caused. To add on to that the horrible tragedy of losing their children, not to mention in such a brave and...what's the word, true-to-themselves fashion, I guess you could say, and it just paints such a sad, conflicted, angry picture. I always felt really fuzzy when I brought the Shofixti back to the Yehat. Just seeing them so happy and ready to fight again. Then again, I also felt really fuzzy when I fixed the Ultron for the Utwig. Just seeing the Utwig happy again made me smile. :D
I haven't finished that Pkunk-Yehat thing yet (I am being lazy, shame) but I have some other little doodles around here.
http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/OrzShofixtigraffiti.GIF - This one was inspired by this one fanfic...I can't remember which one it was...maybe one of the Polensak ones? Anyway, it just had this quick throwaway line that at a big party, some Shofixti were drawing graffiti all over an Orz's battle armor, and the image just grabbed me. Those little Shofixti came out awfully cute. I'm gonna color this someday.
http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/YehatShofixtiuhh.GIF - This is just silly.
http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/Ariloupopsin.GIF - This was inspired by that one thing the Arilou say...what was it..."Last night while you were sleeping, I touched your face and you smiled!" Something like that. ANYWAY I just started imagining the Arilou popping in to visit the Captain at awkward times. THERE YOU GO. I did the Arilou from memory so I probably got some details off. I'll fix it when I color it someday.

Hahah nice! Mmm, the Yehat wing joint error is amusing, it's sort of like drawing the thumb on the wrong side of the hand, or worse since it's difficult to move an entire hand by mutation... stuff in nature tends to build on the same basic structure... Oh my, how quickly I go OT.

Hmmm, the Utwig don't really strike me as emo, aside from the silly voice-acting. Their profound spiritual fatalism and existential sense of loss would place them firmly in the doom metal genre.
Of course, that would make the Pkunk a '60s flower-power band; the Ilwrath - Satanic black metal; the Thraddash - a particularly macho-posturing gangsta rap act; the Chenjesu - electro-ambient; the Chmmr - industrial; the Yehat - martial nationalistic neo-folk; and the Zoq-Fot-Pik - a free jazz bar band (with every player trying to solo over the others). The Androsynth could be any major-label, insta-bake, flavor-of-the-month teen pop idol (clones, anyone?).
A few tribute/cover bands are also in the running: the Arilou (a tribute to UFO); the Orz (a tribute to Phish); the Mycon (a tribute to Magma); the Supox (a tribute to Carnivore) and the Kohr-Ah (a tribute to Genocide Organ). The Mmrnmhrm will be covering Kraftwerk ("We are the Robots"), the Shofixti will pay homage to The Vapors ("Turning Japanese") and the Slylandro will play an exciting rendition of Morbid Angel's "Hymn to a Gas Giant".
Also, there are rumors about the Taalo planning a reunion, even though the music press has for ages considered their style of old-fashioned hard rock to be.... well.... extinct. Their management has denied accusations that the band is just playing *time jokes*.
Naturally, the Melnorme and the Druuge are going to come up with lucrative record deals for everyone (containing generous amounts of small print) and fight over signing the next big thing. Which spells doom for us Earthlings, especially when they both find out how many MP3's we all have on our hard drives.

Ah yes, the Arilou! They're one of my very favourite races (a triple-sided weird-ass coin toss between Arilou, Yehat and Melnorme, really). I think the one you did looks reasonably true to the SC2 Arilou (the SC3 ones.... yecch. They look like a pointy-eared version of the Elephant Man, brutally awakened after a six-day drinking binge), although with a somewhat more "Anime" touch to it. There isn't much Arilou or Melnorme-related fan art around, though. If I was better at drawing (and had more time :-/ Most of what I do have is spent coding), I'd just love to take a shot at what Falayaralfali might look like. Or what a Melnorme trade ship looks like on the inside -- given the way the Melnorme alter the colours of their surroundings given their mood and which things they want to look at, I think it'd look interesting, to say the least.
I saw someone had made a sketch of most member races of the New Alliance (except Supox and one of the three ZoqFotPik, if I remember right -- also no Yehat, but I suppose they aren't technically an alliance member -- there was a Pkunk, though!), after the war. I can't remember where I found it, but that was a pretty neat picture.

Oh my, how quickly I go OT. Heh, yeah, that error is weird. I didn't even really notice it until I went in for color references and was like "...hey, wait a minute." Problem is I'm still not sure if that was intentional or not! Who knows. I'm playin it safe and just going with both as it suits me.

The Arilou in SC3 terrified me, especially when their head would go insane and brr. So creepy.

Ooo, neat idea! I love theorizing endlessly about how various species might do one thing or another. I've gone on and on about the VUX in particular (::coughfavoritismcough::) but it would be fun to think about the Melnorme...hmmm.
I saw someone had made a sketch of most member races of the New Alliance (except Supox and one of the three ZoqFotPik, if I remember right -- also no Yehat, but I suppose they aren't technically an alliance member -- there was a Pkunk, though!), after the war. Anyway, in terms of art stuff, I finally finished that one Pkunk-Yehat picture! http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/YehatPkunkflower.JPG - This is probably because I love drawing blood. Darn it. I pretty much just made up what the Pkunk might look like full-body. I thought that if the Pkunk and Yehat were split that they'd look fairly similar...therefore, the whole elbow-wing thing worked fer them cause it kept their wings out of their talking shot and kept their weird long fingers. I THINK the Pkunk can still fly (don't they mention kicking fledgelings out of the nest?) but they could just be vestigial wings and the nest kicking thing a cultural understanding type thing. Woah, what was I talking about? OH RIGHT. Yeah, I can't imagine the Pkunk's absorption into the Yehat as very peaceful. I'm sure SOME of them must have died, sooo BLATANTLY VIOLENT PICTURE. Also somewhat nonsensical because there's no way they'd fight face to face. Also inspired by that one hippie who put that flower in that guy's gun. My memory blanks on the details now. Can you tell guns aren't my forte? :O http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/YehatPkunkflower800600.JPG - Bonus wallpapery version for the heck of it!
http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/OrzShofixtigraffiti.JPG - Colors! :O There are some little mistakes here I'll probably fix later.
I've got some goofy Hierarchy stuff in the works...I should work on those. Argh lazy.

I really like that Yehat/Pkunk picture; I can totally see something like that happening. Except afterwards, the Yehat probably fires again, got to confirm those kills, right?
The gun looks perfectly passable, I wouldn't sweat such a tiny detail in such great work overall if I were you.

We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

The gun is fine for a human gun, but I wonder how its ergonomics are on a Yehat.
Also, the graffiti picture makes much more sense in color.

I really like that Yehat/Pkunk picture; I can totally see something like that happening. Except afterwards, the Yehat probably fires again, got to confirm those kills, right? Haha, you got it! Either that or that's the exact moment a Yehat realized what it was doing. I wonder how that went, exactly? Was it just a gradual revolution, was it discussed, how the whole thing went down...hmmm. Why do I wonder about this stuff.
The gun is fine for a human gun, but I wonder how its ergonomics are on a Yehat. Yeah, I wasn't sure how to do a Yehatoriented gun. I'm not sure if they really have a thumb for a grip (since their hand designs are so inconsistent wooo) or how they would use it. For some reason I picture Yehat fighting mostly with their talons before weaponry (that is, if they HAVE legs...which I assume they do but their speech picture never really makes that clear...) but I do wonder how they'd operate a gun. I should try some sketches and see if I can work out anything.
Also, the graffiti picture makes much more sense in color. Heh, most of my stuff does. My sketches are kind of messy.
You wouldn't happen to have any plans of making wallpapers, would you? I've already did the two in the thread, the Yehat-Pkunk one and the Yehat-Shofixti one. I might do more, if I sketch up something that'll work for one. Or do you mean like...wallpapers in different resolutions?
God I have FALLEN IN LOVE with this Hyperspace remix by Saibuster. It just makes me feel so happy inside. God I'm a dork. I haven't really colored anything lately, I've just been doing little sketches. Mostly of Ur-Quan. I was reading up on them and thinking about what they must look like as a whole. They were described as the top predator on their planet (or a predator or something) so they must have had some limbs or way of moving that's pretty quick...and they were also based on the carnivorous caterpillar which I couldn't find a real clear shot of, so I went off what I knew from their pics in game to come up with... http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/UrQuanarms.GIF I couldn't remember off hand if you see the end of an Ur-Quan's tentacle on screen (I think you see it in melee, when they send out fighters, don't you?) so I gave them two sets of arms with "hands" at the end kind of for manipulating things/holding the slave baton and two back tentacles with spikes at the end, maybe for holding onto the trees of their homeworld and the ceiling on their Dreadnoughts. I think their body is probably longer than it is here, but I was just trying to get an idea of how to draw a full-body Ur-Quan. Makes me wonder how they were predators though if they don't really have a mouth with all those tentacles or maybe their world's creatures didn't need to be chewed or something, or maybe they're like the caterpillar. I wish I could get a clear shot of that thing. http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/UrQuanhardcore.GIF - actually these are before I did the hand thing, so they're all spike-ended. The tentacles I mean. Yes I do make stupid random notes to myself why do you ask http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/UrQuanslavebaton.GIF - I always wondered, "why a baton?" hee hee http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/UrQuanonthenaught.GIF - This originally started just as the Spathi and the Umgah with the paper bag, then I just went for it and threw in the Ur-Quan, Ilwrath, and VUX. I'm planning on coloring this one at some point. I'll probably lengthen the Ur-Quan's body a bit...I was trying to think of a kind of background I could put behind everything, but I'm bad at machinery so it's pretty blank. Hehehe, I just love the idea of an Umgah thrall constantly tricking and harrassing the Spathi thrall. http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/UrQuanpose.GIF - It turns out that Ur-Quan are really, really fun to draw.
Woop forgot this one. http://www.drdowasure.com/images/msp/Druugesketch.GIF - Done from memory, so it's probably pretty off. WOO. I tried to do some Melnorme but I'm still having trouble with them.
GOD WHY AM I NOT ASLEEP AAAA

I'd think their legs would be somewhat smaller, and they might have a strong pair of claws at the end of their body. That would be more like a caterpillar.

Is that a Kohr-Ah with slaves? The plate would lead me to believe it is. I'm not sure what kind of crew they have, the Kzer-Za has slaves, but it seems somewhat out of character to have some 40 huge (possibly territorial) Kzer-Za on the same ship. I could imagine them using strange octopus robots or something.
As for the UrQ anatomy, I image something along the lines of a body with the same length/thickness proportion as a... hotdog, with 4 arms (or legs) on each end. The rear ones being used for hanging and mating.
