The Size of ships
« on: March 13, 2006, 12:01:31 am »

What do you guys think on the scale of the ships ?
Personally I think the scales of all ships are wrong most likely forged because of game/system limits at the time the game was made.
I just made a few 3d ships and was planning to start a new one when I run into the scale issue.
I 'quick en dirty' put together a dreadnought and scaled it up a bit, and it suddenly was giving me that: (quote from SC1) "The Ur-Quan Dreadnought, is the single most devastating ship in known space. Alternately termed "Planetary Siege Units," a single specimen of this feared ship has succeeded in subduing and enslaving entire worlds."

Just curious how you guys think on it.

You don't need a big ship to lay siege to a planet, you just need big guns.
I like the models. You're planning to add textures lateron?

Nice pictures. Good work.

To answer your question, I try not to think about things like
"scale" and "reality" and proper star positioning where
UQM is concerned. I just enjoy all the 2D goodness of
a great game.

But you do need a big ship if you're carring a compliment of one man fighters.

I think crew size would be a good determinant of scale if you insist of "fixing" it (not that it matters).

You don't know how big the pilots of those fighters are. They could be sentient death fleas from the other side of the galaxy.

Scum? I don't think so. "Master" is more like it.

I recall that in the original manual for the DOS version of SC1, there was a sketch of an Ur-Quan fighter pilot. Perhaps, the Ur-quan had subjegated a race of tiny tentacled people, as the sketch looked almost like a shrunken hybrid of an Ur-Quan and a VUX.
