AI level in Story Mode

I wonder, what AI level is used in Story Mode... IMO it does not resemble good nor awesome, but with the difficulty somewhere in betwenn.

Can someone look into the code and say something?

The enemy AI difficulty in story mode is Awesome (most difficult).

There are a few differences though.
The VUX ship doesn't warp in at point-blank range in the full game, and Slylandro probes don't avoid projectiles.
And then there is special behaviour for the first Ilwrath ship you meet, and Tanaka/Katana.
