As I sit here at work and debug my programs I was wandering what would happen if you tried to defeat the Sa-Matra with out all of the necessary tools. Like say having the Chmmr moded Utwig Bomb.
So I guess my question is what happens if you defeat the Sa-Matra’s defenses with out the means to destroy it?

At a bare minimum, you need the Talking Pet to distract the Ur-Quan fleets directly guarding the Sa-Matra, otherwise it will be guarded by an infinite number of ships, making the battle unwinnable (for you, anyways). And if you try to use the Talking Pet before you're ready, he'll say something like:
Quote
You are not yet ready to face the Ur-Quan in a final confrontation, Captain You still need a weapon of sufficient destructive force to destroy the Sa-Matra This must be done before you are ready to attack. We must leave now, and return when you are fully prepared.
Or put simply, "you can't get there from here."

Each fleet in the ring guarding the Sa-Matra has 10 extra ships more than normal fleets, so it is not easy to penetrate these guards...

Each group in the outer ring has 13 ships. Basically you could either punch a hole in the ring or completely eliminate the ring (what I was thinking in the other thread). Then once you get past that ring, you'll find an infinite fleet of Ur-Quan (or Kohr-Ah I guess if they win the doctrinal war) guarding the Sa-Matra itself.

You can also get ships to follow you around and then circle back to SaMatra. I did it once and SaMatra looked like a planet with infinet ships around it.
