I'm sure that I'm not the first one who ask this, but is there any way to stop the clock and the total anhillation? I like to be an explorer and I really like to explore every galaxy and every planet of entire universe, but it is impossible during the time limit. If that is impossible, then is there any f.a.q of guide, that tell exactly what I have to do to accomplish the game. This is my second time playing this game, and I fear it will fail again because of the time limit. I may start over once again, but this time I like to really know what I'm doing.
PS: Sorry if my english is little rusty.

Cool, i'm recognized and if anybody is wondering, i'm still working on re-arranging the starmap mod just a little issue with editing the content to fit the new locations of all the worlds Recognition where it's due - absolutely.
What exactly are you doing to the starmap if I may ask? To my mind there are two main things that need doing to make this game continue to remain the best ever which tie in a bit with this: 1. Randomise game (maybe user-interface?) - Identify 2, 5, 10 whatever viable places for each sphere of influence and home world - then mix up the quests/game elements the same way (e.g. a trident may have great effects with sunlight) - and possibly 2, 4, 8 whatever different maps, q-maps and [unknown] location, (plus a certain trading race may in fact be found at a different batch of star types), scattered rainbows forming different patterns - etc Combinations of the abovelead to many many different possible games - of course us addicts would never stop playing which might or might not be a good thing...
2. Game difficulty (again use-interface option) -decrease combat ability of vindicator (somewhere between what it can be and what it is in the non-starbase path!) -increase combat ability of some or all races' ships -increase fuel/crew costs -increase module costs exponentially - (am I the only one who plays the game again and goes from tug to dreadnought overnight?) -make certain quest challenges harder -many enemies at a time in melee
Many of the above ideas are not original. Nor are they easy I'm sure.

HI all, glad to have found this group. Now that I am totally addicted to this game, I found the same problem, that there is not enough time to relax and have fun. Well, I downloaded all those programs, and lost them somewhere in my computer. Since I am old and still computer illiterate, could someone please explain to me how to successfully download these and stop the clock? Plus, I figure if there is one freeware game like this there must be more, and would like to know how to find them, but this one is keeping me quite busy for now. Thanks for anybody's help on this issue, and beat the ur-quan!

I will give my own try at the scramble-starmap MOD, as soon I find some time.
I thought about a thing I would first change the code, without changing anything in the game to made it suitable for the thing I want to do.
Then I will figure out, how to change the things, I want to change, e.g. star locations. After that I will change the code again, so theses things will be more easier to change.
In the end I will create a user interface, which allows changing of the code in the ways which have been invented and discovered, without editing or even viewing the code, so that no proamming exercise is needed.
Every user would have to use the user-interface to change the code and then compile the program and propably even create an addon package. In the best case, the compiling and creation of addon-package will be done by that software, too.

Put in much more variable names or something like that, for all location names and coordinates...
Voice overs are crap anyway, just mute it.

1. Randomise game
2. Game difficulty
#1 is impossible, because you'd lose all the clues to where things are. You need the dialogue to synch up with where things are. If you could limit this to things like minerals and non-essential systems, then it would be workable, but you can't really change anything that would muck up the dialogue or the ability to get through the game without guessing what needs to be done (i.e. where to go).
#2 is very possible however...unfortunately there's been no agreement in that, for the gaming purists and so forth, like the ones that already complain that the game is too hard as it is or the ones that don't want anything changed.
