Tech Help Please
« on: April 18, 2006, 02:10:24 am »

I just downloaded The Ur-Quan Masters yesterday, and I love it a lot.  However, there are a few things that are hampering gameplay.  I was wondering if anyone could offer any help.

I have a 1.6Ghz Pentium M running Windows XP with 512MB of (DDR2 I think) RAM.

1.  I have the audio stutter that other people have complained about on the forum.  I don't have a special sound card (nor can I get one, I have a laptop), and I've tried getting rid of all of the unessential processes running on the computer.  Nothing that I've seen on the forums seems to help.  I can play with the sound off, but I'd like to hear the speech and music if possible.  Does anyone know any other fixes?  I've noticed that the sound files are in OGG format, and I don't have an OGG playing programs on my computer other than UQM, but this shouldn't affect anything, right?

2.  When I quit the UQM, the process does not stop running on my computer.  In order to play the game again after quitting and stop some annoying slowdown I have to go into the task menu and kill the uqm process manually.  This is not that bad, just a little annoying.  Is there any way to fix this?

I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

1. In the advanced options menu of the setup menu, try setting the audio driver to MixSDL, or if it's already at that setting, try OpeAL.
2. Weird problem. Haven't seen anything like that before. I have no suggestions either.
