Oh my, thank you so much for redoing this game.  My friend and I had so much fun playing it years ago that it is a pleasure to play again!!

My problem is the stupid PROBES! they keep assaulting me and I can't get anywhere. I am finally getting better at space combat after all these yesras, but it is annoying to have them gank me everytime I try to go somewhere.  If I remember right isn't there a way to get them to stop attacking you?

Its nice that I still love this game after all these years!

If you first take care of your business in the Sol system, the probes won't be as much of a problem.
And you'll want to be able to outrun those probes.

Keep care about what meep-eep said.

If you did everything in the Sol system the probes should not come that often. If that's still too often for you, try to be good at fighting them, and the Earthling Cruiser is not the best choice for that battle (the Flagship isn't either, unless you have Hellbore Cannons, good maneuverability and Auto-Tracking  Grin), but if you don't have anything better you can beat them with a bit of luck and a lot of practice.
By the way, the Probes are the fastest vessel in hyperspace in the game - except your own, if you upgrade it enough!

There is a way to stop them, but I guess you have to figure it out yourselves... you will get some clues from a (couple of) friendly species, you'll meet quite early in the game - but be aware, the journey to visit those could be dangerous  Tongue. Also from the probes themselves, communicate with them every time you run into one of them. If you will not figure it out at all, later in the game you will get the needed information from the ones, who built the first of those probes, but when you are at that point, you are propably strong enough to kill them in a damn hellbore second  Wink

Actually, the Earthling Cruiser is quite effective against the probe in the early game (still might take some game loads) amongst all the escort ships. When the probe approaches try turning and facing it, good chance it will run. Keep firing missiles, always accelerate away from the probe and maybe look for a planet for a whip.  Later on, the Thraddash Torch is your best bet because it is faster than the probe, assuming the flagship is not combat-ready, or a solution to the probe problem hasn't been found...

Hmm, I never thought of using the Cruiser against those probes early on just because it usually performs so poorly in general. I preferred the Spathi, although it takes patience and careful flying to beat a probe with an Eluder.

I'll have to try using the Cruiser next time. =)
