Path #1: Start Yehat revolution, keep Pkunk away. Pkunk/Yehat come and help you kill sa-matra.
#2: Start Yehat revolution, leave Pkunk to commit suicide at the talons of Yehat. They both come at the end again.
#3: Don't start the revolution. Let Pkunk commit suicide. No birds at sa-matra. #4: Don't start revolt, don't let pkunk commit suicide. No birds at ending.
3 & 4 are highly depressing. Particularly as I think the yehat fight their war unto self-annihilation as well.
Further, if you want to get Revolutionary Yehat ships without having to wade through Royalist fleets, go hang out in hyperspace INSIDE the revolt SOI but OUTSIDE the loyal SOI. Zoom into starmap, go to Mycon side of Yehat SOI (the lighter one I think) and - hey, where did all of those loyalist toadies go?

I remember the first time I went through the game I got those Pkunk ships, and I said oh crap a fleet of pkunk; the Pkunk are useless. Then I started the battle with the Sa-Matra and my chmmr ships were destroyed right off then I killed off all my Yehat ships, and then was only left with the pkunk. To my serpise the pkunk were just the thing to kill the Sa-Matra shield generators. I think I used two.
similar story here. Up to the sa-matra, the only ships that gave me trouble were the Kohr-Ah, and even then not too much. I was kinda annoyed at the arilou only giving me three skiffs, the cheapskates!
So I'm thinking, 'let's use mr tracking laser on those red thin- OMG! HELP! AARGH! *bang!* Enter everything else until my sole surviving ship - a fury. Suddenly I'm asking myself why I was finding this almost impossible. End game. Ah, well...
