Ideas for replacement sound effects
« on: June 02, 2006, 09:50:10 am »

Like I mentioned in another post, I swapped out the .WAV file the Pkunk play when they rez from the singing chorus to Sinistar's "Beware, I live!!".  What other funny/cool/bizzare sound swap ideas can you think of for the ships?

Nice topic.  Grin

How about these:
Earthling missile launch noise -> "KHAAAAAN!"
Earthling victory ditty -> The Picard Song
Androsynth comet activation noise -> "Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes"
Hyperspace theme -> "What Is Love?" (gonna actually try that one, heheh)

LOL Halleck Cheesy (thirded)

When using the Jugger shields play MCHammer's Can't touch this song Tongue
You can also replace Pkunk death with "I'll be back" from Terminator.
Replace Mycon Regeneration with "And they get knocked down, and get up again! You can never ever keep em' down!" from Chumbawamba Tongue

Thought of one I'm going to install soon as I find a good sound clip of it.  Replace the sound the Mrmmnhrm makes when it changes with the appropriate sound from the Transformers.

Probably just replace them with file of similar names, stuff 'em into zip files, and then rename the zips' extension to .uqm and put them in the correct content directory.

This would be a very interesting addon.  Sounds replaced by new sounds from more modern pop culture shows, music, etc.

Basically you start by making a copy of the .uqm file with the .wav files inside it.  I forget which one it is right now, and since I'm not on my system I can't look. (installing windows 98 and XP so I can dual-boot just to play Mechwarrior 2, damnit!).  Store one copy as a master file so you'll always have the raw unmucked with data handy.  Rename the other one to .ZIP, de-pack it, and start looking for the sound files.  They'll be in sub-directories sorted by ship.  Find the .WAV you want to replace, replace it with the file you want in it's place renamed to match the old .WAV, recompile, and name it back to .UQM

The ZIP you want is content/packages/uqm-*-content.uqm. If you want to save time unpacking and replacing and generally fiddling around with ZIP files, just unpack the whole ZIP file to content/; the unpacked content files will override the ZIP files.

Creating an addon package is easy and a good idea if you intend to distribute your changes. See the Ultronomicon article on content management.

Mycon regeneration sound = "MUSHROOM, MUSHROOM!" (from the BadgerBadger song)
