In /usr/local/share, there is no "uqm" folder, should I make one, and if not, where should I put the package?
Looks like the Ubuntu package is putting the content data in /usr/share/games/uqm/content, so that's the content directory you'd use (in other words, substitute /usr/share/games for /usr/local/share/ in the installation described in the Ultronomicon).
Do you have any addons (bearing in mind that the 3DO voice package is not an addon)?
Look, in case you haven't figured it out yet, all you need to do is put the voice package in /usr/share/games/uqm/content/packages. If it doesn't exist, you're probably missing the main content, in which case the game won't work anyway.
I only have UQM and the UQM content package, so no.
Also, there is no packages folder, either, however, the game itself will run, so it must be somewhere.
Is there anything in /usr/share/games/uqm/content at all (e.g. uncompressed content)? If there is, you could try creating the packages directory and putting the voice package there. If not, try checking the console output of UQM for the real content directory or try looking for *.uqm throughout the file system.
In the specific case for voice, yes. But if you want to install packages that override files in the unpacked content you would have to overwrite the existing files.
