Scott, DOSBox is simple to use.  Drag the program you want to use onto the DOSBox executable, and it will run.  If not, it will return you to it's directory (conveniently named C: every time).

No no, you seem mistaken.  You appear to have meant:

Scorched Earth > any other "artillery" game

There's a neat 3D port underway by someone who works at Cisco, I forget the URL offhand.  And there's something called Scorch2000, I think?  Network play?

Another great one that just came to mind

One Must Fall: 2097 - a really cool fighting game. The arenas can hurt ya, and you can upgrade your robot fighter and buy new ones.

Bah, I can't find my original X-Com CDs, just the re-release CDs... and these ones were "updated" to run in Windows 95/98, and thus won't work in DOSBox. Grrrrr. Angry

Ah, scorched earth.  We used to play that as a drinking game in college.  Lost a round, do a shot...

It was eventually superceded by the Worms series.

Also really liked QFG1, back in the day.  When I had it, though, it was called Hero's Quest.

Also played Archon all the time when I was younger.  Another great TFB game.  Didn't much care for Archon Ultra, though.

Great suggestions, brings back memories.  Would love to find a copy of One Must Fall 2097 (data corruption error lost my copy).  Was fun to send the opponent into that electrified fence...then the flame bot was always fun...

Speaking of Scorched Earth, what did you all do when someone caused armageddon (did that quite a lot when I played it - killed off everything on the screen at the timeincluding myself, but then again I played with it on the largest scales)?  Guess everyone takes a shot?

Speaking of that, any special tricks anyone had with Scorched Earth?  Always had fun doing off the wall things, like turning the rollers into bombs or shooting the opposite way, using the horizontal guidance.  Then there was always the hail mary shot with the death's head bomb...shoot it straight up, see what happens...

Yeah, if you used a hot napalm with a lazy boy guidance, and aimed right at the tank, often the shot would penetrate, through any shield, and then detonate, filling up the entire shield with lava and then killing them. So cheap. But failing that, just nuking everything with death's head was always fun, but it had an uncanny ability to only hit you.
