A quick question about the saves...
« on: September 24, 2006, 09:34:32 pm »

Hey guys, I was just wondering how large the save files for UQM can grow to be? I took a look at a early game save and found the file to be 2kb in size.

Do the saves get larger by a fair amount as the game progresses, or is this the general save size?

Mineral data and battle group data are stored in them, so they get bigger with every system you visit, but not by much, and compression is used. The game itself reserves 10K; if it needs more, it will run into problems. A cursory look at the code suggests it may well result in truncated (unusable) saves.
But during a normal game, it shouldn't get over 4K. The largest one I've got here is 3270 bytes.
