How to clone a Pkunk.
« on: October 10, 2006, 08:12:20 pm »

I just noticed a really bizzarre plot hole  Grin. Say a Syreen sucks a Pkunk from it's ship so the Pkunk is now on the Syreen ship, and then the pkunk ship dies and comes back to life. Well, all the Pkunk on the Pkunk ship are alive again, but the Pkunk on the Syreen ship are still there. So now there are two of the exact same pkunk  Shocked. It's not exaxctly a problem they should fix or anything, I just thought it was weird.

Of course, It's perfectly acceptable that the Pkunk ships come back alive at all.

Reincarnation involves going to a next life in another body, so it could just be a spare Cheesy.

"Wait for meeee!"

Reminds me of that Pratchett book with a witch that had one mind in two bodys, whatever it was called. Quite a novel idea.

Perdita X and Agnes?

Somehow I have the mental image of Death going up to a Pkunk Spaceship, only to turn away, sigh, and say  "FALSE ALARM."

No that was two minds in one body (big enough to easily fit two persons).

Reincarnation does not have to happen in chronological order. You could die as Gandhi and be reincarnated as Nero. You could even have just one "soul" sequentially reincarnating as everyone who has ever lived.

- "But I don't believe in reincarnation!" he protested.
- SQUEAK.
- And this, Awky, understood with absolute clarity, meant:
Reincarnation believes in you.

No, Miss Level IIRC. One of the newer, softer books about that girl and the Nac Mac Feegle.

Wee Free Men or Hat Full of Sky. Not sure which. Currently .303ing through Anne McCaffrey's Pern novels. Recommended if you like SF and dragons.

Ugh.  Don't mention that name unless you want me to start throwing holy water at you!

The Kohr-Ah are flawed.  They must die.
If you follow the Kohr-Ah, you should make whatever final preparations are preferential to your species.  You have three of your "minute" time intervals to do so.

Hat Fulll of sky it was.

The Pern novels always struck me as a little odd, mostly because she produced such an insane amount of them. I've read  afew of them, and while some seem interesting enough, others are just uninteresting, sepcecially when you get to "The Dolphins of Pern" or whatever it's called. I have to say  I preferred that other series she wrtoe (which might not have a name because the books only took place in the same universe) that included "the Ship who Sang" and I think.. "The station/ship who fought". They were an quite interesting idea. If you enjoy weird scifi like that, you might want to check out the Ender books as well, by Orson Scot Card. they start out farily normal, and then just grow weirder and wierder. A bit like Battle Star Galactica.

I've read only one book, the first one I believe, didn't like it much.
The idea was quite good, but the narration was in my opinion... well... crappy.
Everything seemed so colorless. Truth be told I had trouble visualizing everythng, from the background to the characterss faces.
And speaking of the characters, there was no one remotely likeable, they were all snobby little punks, if they all died I'd consider it a happy ending.
Which is really too bad, because like I said, the idea for story itself is pretty good.

Orson Scott Card was also very enjoyable. Jerry Pournelle and Poul Anderson, anyone?

When Anne McC got off dragons at the core of the novel onto something else, it did go a little wrong. The series about the harpers I liked though.

Man, I loved all of the Pern books, especially the Ninth Pass ones after Aivas appeared.  It was a total riot reading about the lot of them using what essentially amounted to DOS daily to finally save the world.

I like Anne Mccaffreys Acorna Novels, but I haven't read much else by her.

Anyone find it odd how we got to talking about Anne Mccaffrey Novels?
