How do I put the 3DO intro ending movies in the game?
« on: October 15, 2006, 09:26:58 am »

I downloaded the Ur-Khan  Masters and  installed it.
It runs fine but doesn't have the 3DO intro and ending movies.
Ultronomicon page says that you can add the intro and victory movies to the game if you have the 3DO game cd.
To do this, you first need to make a .iso file of the CD-ROM, and then run a program called unCD-ROM.
I have the 3DO version of the game but my computer won't read the cd-rom.
I have tried everything and nothing works.
Does anyone have the files I need to put in the game to play the game with the intro and ending?
Is there a website or filesharing place I can get them from?

Interesting info when I played the 3DO version of the game and went to  the Androsynth homeworld  Eta Vulpeculae 2 you can find out part of what happened to them.

Could you be a bit more specific about the "everything" part? What program have you been using to create the ISO image?

I haven't been able to make a iso image because my computer won't even reconize the cd-rom.
It's like there is nothing in the drive.
I have a Pioneer 109 burner.
My computer won't read the 3DO cd-rom.
So I can't make a iso.

You can't access the CD-ROM as a normal drive, as it isn't in the usual format. But just because Windows doesn't know how to interpret the bytes on the CD-ROM doesn't mean these bytes can't be copied into a .iso file. Just put the CD-ROM in the drive and run your iso making prog.

I know you might find this hard to believe, but the Frequently Asked Questions: Technical Issues thread that's stickied at the top of this board provides a link to the information you seek. More specifically, the answers may be found here.

Unfortunately, it appears that the link to "more detailed instructions" is dead. Thankfully, there is a somewhat complete backup of it available through the Wayback Machine. However, some crucial bits of information seem to be missing. I'll see if I can locate a guide that can be used as a reference for a new entry in the Ultronomicon.

Edit: I've found that none of the specific options from the "detailed instructions" are required in order to rip an ISO of the SC2 disc using CDRWin. So you could ignore that second screenshot it shows you and it should copy without issue.

Where can I get a download of CDRWin?
Do I need to get the CDRWin v3.7a version that is used on the webpage?

I did it!
I couldn't find the CDRWIN program so I downloaded a program called MagicISO.
It saved the iso .
Then I used uncdrom program.
Then I followed the instructions on the Ultronomicon page.
When I started a new game it played the intro movie.

I don't really want to go through all this again.
I might  have to reinstall the game some time in the future.
Can I go into the program files and burn a copy of The Ur-Quan Masters folder to a cd-rom?
Will I have a full version of the game with intro and ending movies?

You could do that. The only things that won't work if you do that, to my knowledge, are start menu and desktop shortcuts and uninstallation; the game itself works fine.

I'd suggest taking the 3DO movie files, putting them in an empty directory structure corresponding to the UQM directories involved and burning that to a CD. Whenever you feel the need to reinstall UQM, install the latest UQM normally, then copy the movies into the UQM directory in one go. If you're on a slow Net connection or intend to reinstall often, though, I'd just burn the whole thing to CD like you suggested instead.
