For TFB and Fans -- please read
« on: October 18, 2006, 12:08:28 pm »

Okay, so normally I don't post to forums but I just couldn't let this one go. I was reading: http://starcontrol.classicgaming.gamespy.com/scwc/completehistory.shtml (Which I believe comes from the original game manual) when I noticed that a fourth of the way down the page it mentions the Slylandro and their probes and even identifys their orgin (even though the captian isn't sure). I was under the impression that the captain had no knowledge of the Slylandro before his visit to their planet. This is not the only error I've noticed but is definately the grossest so far. So, with that said I want to present a question to TFB and the SC2 community. How would you feel about TFB rewriting this intro to fit in with SC2 more and with any future sequels? To be released with the UQM release.

I take it you're suggesting this because we can't include the original manual with UQM?
Having some introduction outside of the game isn't really necessary as the game contains all the background information you need to complete it.
But if TFB want to rewrite the introduction (and I expect they have better things to do) for inclusion with UQM then I would personally welcome it. But even if they would want to do this, I don't see them using some fan-fiction as a basis for it.

That is not from the SC2 manual; it's a summary of the Star Control universe as shown in SC1 and SC2 written by one of the SC3 writers. Further examination shows that it's written from Zelnick's perspective after the events of SC2, so it's obviously full of SC2 spoilers.

The SC2 manual can be found in the PoNaF SC2 download section.

Where did you get that the author was one of the SC3 writers?

Eh? Says "by Brian Sexton" at the top, and Sexton's credited for Melee Ship Design Support, Dialogue Writing, Dialogue Editing, Testing and Documentation: Historian in the SC3 credits (I checked the manual). See also SC3 credits on MobyGames.

They even got the Mael-Num wrong, it was the Taalo who said 'Hold! what you are doing is wrong!'  to the Ur-Quan, not them.

Huh? The Kohr-Ah, in their lengthy explanation triggered by these words, explicitly say the Mael-Num uttered them.

Quote from: Kohr-Ah
From the surface came a plea... identical to the words you spoke a few moments ago. The one-eyed creatures, the Mael-Num, asked so simply, so clearly that we felt compelled to explain.
