Yes, I did overreact (again). I think I should check the forums in the morning before the day's kak starts, instead of in the evening...

Incidentally, I'm in wonderful South Africa, and our news down here is incredibly narrow in its perspective. Plus the favoured religions are of the dress-up-in-feathers/bones-and-caterwaul types.

Wonderful weather we're having lately...

No worries, faith is a touchy subject.

As opposed to the dress the boss-and-his-mates-up-in-ridiculous-hats-and-assorted-getup-and-gobble-in-latin types? Wink to each their own.

Bah!
You at least have a decent chance of seeing snow by december.
Over here it seems this winter will be another one of those crappy not-cold-enough-for-snow-not-warm-enough-for-a-lighter-jacket winters.

You are hereby cordially invited to the Southwest of Finland, where the presence of the Baltic sea ensures that we will be dealing with rain and slush all winter long, with the odd chance of a few days of snow here and there. Snow which will invariably melt away and break our hearts after lying on the grounds for less than one full rotation of our planet along it's axis. The cold rain however, will continue to fall, and chill us to our bare bones. aAso, it's dark all the time, so it feels worse than it is (and it's pretty bad).

So in conclusion: stuff your mideuropean climate and long days of light. During winter we hate you all, and would gladly see you succumb to any number of ill fates.

Ah, the coast, forget I said anything.

I hereby offer a few litres of cheap low-taxed Polish booze as an apology and a way to drown our December Depression.

I bow to your mastery of the visual media dear sir, that's an awesome picture. Your apology is accepted, and it is my sincere hope that at some point in the future (during the first StarControlCon mayhap?) we will be able to share a bottle of your fine liquor.

(during the first StarControlCon mayhap?)

You know that would be a great thing if it happened.
Lots of us are from Europe, from the EU even, so it would be relatively painless to meet somewhere in-between.

Our American comrades would have a bit of a problem, tough.

I wonder how many people would be willing to do such a meet-up.

Great indeed. Just as long as it's not somewhere in the arctic or something.

Where does one place bookings?

Finland is actually quite nice during Summer.

Heh, hold your horses.
I organised a few meetups like this (on the scale of my country tough, not the whole damn world), and the biggest problems with organising such events are:

1) Getting enough people willing to move their asses.
2) Finding a date that will suit everyone, or at least the majority.

We haven't even reached point 1), cause thise whole thing is still an abstract idea (tough many such meet-ups which I was a part of started like this)

If we're organising a meet-up, we have to make certain TfB gets an invite.

We should also consider setting it up someplace warm... Like, say Australia. Equally inconvenient for everyone (except perhaps Australians... Do we even have any of those here?)!

On a more serious note, a StarconCon would be truly awesome, if it were at all possible to make it work.
