buying crew

Hi, I just started playing the game and it's cool. However, I am stuck. I am out of crew and cannot see how to buy more. I have several thousand RU's and can buy anything else in the ship outfitting  screen, but I can't see how to buy crew members. Sorry for such a dump question, but I can't find the info anywhere else.
