setting up super melee for single player

want to play single player vs AI. After selecting fleet, I keep getting returned to fleet page with question mark flashing. What are the steps to complete to enter/commence single player combat?

If I've understood you correctly, you're at the ship selection prompt in Melee that shows the ships left in your fleet and a question mark for random ship. Simply select a ship using the controls for the player in question (top player is player 2, bottom player is player 1). The controls can be redefined using the setup menu.
