The fact that they make planets molten, maybe suitable for a silicon based lifeform.
The fact that the Mycon actively sought out the Ur-Quan, who were very good friends of the Taalo.
Or maybe just that the locations aren't that far apart.

I believe the Mycon were described by FF or PR3 as "Precursor teriforming devices" who kind of evolved independence and changed somewhat.

One of the Mycon rambles is somebody else saying: "... planetary transformer biot 94-18: take your place at the transporter dais..."
I'm not sure if it's absolutely canon that they're a Precursor planetary transformer biot, but given that the Pod of Juffo-Wup is identified by Solbase as a Precursor tool, it seems to be at least a vaguely reasonable guess.

I don't remember seeing any evidence that the Mycon and the Taalo were related either. On the issue of joining the Ur-Quan they did say (I forget if it is in SC2 or SC3 where they said this) that Juffo-Wup recognizes that there are un-voidable non, and they will work with said un-voidable non, until such a time as they can find a weakness allowing them to void the non. The Orz do mention the Taalo somewhat though in SC2.
Also on the issue of them being tools, the Umgah also say so in SC2. After removing the talking pet from their homeworld, ask to know their secrets, after pulling one of their jokes on you, they do point out that they were curious about how the Mycon could perform genetic modifications on themselves without using tools, Saying that the Mycon need only THINK genetic modification and it happened. Since they didn't know how that was done, they clonked a Mycon on the head when no-one was looking, and cut it up for study. They found one key thing, that the Mycon weren't the product of any natural evolution process, that the Mycon were constructs. After they say please don't tell anyone about them clonking Mycon, it against Ur-Quan slave laws, and not want the Mycon mad at them.
