Useless UQM Trivia

While tooling around with UQM 0.6.0 recently, I found a world that's only lifeform is the mouse (like my message board avatar). It is found at Beta Lacaille 1 in Illwrath space.

When I first played SC2 and I went looking for the VUX Pet, I
must have landed on a hundred different planets. Some of them
had just a single life form, which always got my hopes up.

Personally, I always found the worlds with a great abundance of harmless life, plus only one major predator, a bit more interesting. They seemed more analagous to a real ecosystem.

Yeah i remember almost giving up to find that beast...but it's one of the greatest part of Star control 2 (or any game) is the "serendipity" factor: chance discovery of many...many things. You find stuff when you don't look for it.

a system looks totally empty...you only go in for minerals or life forms...BOOM, an artifact or something else.

The best example i have for this is about 15 years ago, when i used to go at a friend's house to see him play star control 2 (and play super melee of course)...we played for hours and at like 2 hours a.m. we bumped into a gas giant by mistake and encountered the slylandro. That made our day (night) totally...and we couldn't believe how deep that game was.

Wow, what are the chances - that would have been a very very cool event. I hope to God SC4 is released after i've finished study - I dont think i could deal with both at once. I too want to stay up to 2am randomly stumbling across exciting finds after hours of boringness. I think its why soccer is so popular - a goal an hour - cant go wrong with that formula. Except i love SC and dislike soccer.
