Why don't all races have point defense lasers?

Flagship in melee?
« on: January 09, 2007, 09:59:05 pm »

Are there any plans to allow the flagship to be used in melee? I felt that this was one of the most regrettable oversights in the original SC2.

To the people who claim this doesn't fit the "original vision" -- this won't be changing any elements of gameplay or balance, just adding a new option for people who like melee to play a ship that's already been programmed into the game to play--only now you wouldn't have to play the full game to actually fight with that ship.
Anyone who wants to melee without it, can.

I would really like to see this...

Honestly, I think that is am amazing idea!  I'd love to see this; war of the many configurations of the flagship.

It's gonna be on the list of "things to do", since there's so much for them to work on...

I suspect the old patch will still work.

It isn't liking my keys.cfg either. My reason is because I'm using the old Win32 binary from the original topic. The keys.cfg is for 0.5.3 or later, hence no go.

Whoa! I thought this was a myth. Is there a mac binary anywhere? Does it play nice with net play?

My guess is no. As it reads the ship configuration from ini files, they'd have to be an exact match on both computers. Other than that, the code has undergone some restructuring so that a new build is required for the different platforms.

Of course, this is all based from an outside view, so correct me if I am wrong anyone...

There is no recent binary of any kind. Just a patch, and it might not even apply to the current source anymore.
As for netplay, it would probably work as long as both players have the patch and exactly the same flagship layout, but it isn't negotiated or checked over the network, so they would need to make sure of that manually.
