please help with addons in  the OSX version
« on: May 21, 2005, 05:32:13 am »

I am having trouble being able to use the addons while running Urquan Masters in OSX.  I follow the directions in the readme to open the ctrl click the "show package contents" then go to the contents:resources:content:packages file.  When I try to put the addon zip files in the folder, it gives me the "the file cannot be moved because "contents" cannot be modified.

I understand that this is probably more of a mac problem than a urquan masters problem, but i am dying to play the game with the addons and i'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out.  I have read and write access to the location and everything, so i can't figure out why i cant move the files.

please email me if you are a smart star control loving mac osX god or goddess, and i will be forever in your debt.

The only other time I've ever seen such a thing happen, it was because the user was playing the game out of the disk image rather than dragging it onto their "Applications" folder.  But you've just hinted that you've read the manual, so that's likely not the case.

If you "Get Info" on the "packages" folder, Wwhere does it say the folder lives?  Do you have write permission on the folder, is it locked, etc.?

I, too, am one of those poor souls that just can't get the addons to work. In my case they mean 3DO music and speech. I think I've downloaded the right packages, but probably just don't understand the written instructions in the README file. I'm guessing the problem is in the .uqm files department. Does it mean the .uggs in the downloaded uqm-0 and comm folders? Do I have to move the files out of the folders?

If someone knows the step-by-step procedure, their hel  would be much appreciated. You can email me at vasaraasialainen@yahoo.com, or -- better yet -- write the instructions in this thread. I'm guessing there might be others trying the same thing, and one thread with good info would help a lot.

Oh yes, the version I'm trying to get to work with 3DO sounds is 0.6.1 and the machine is a MacBook Pro. (I don't know if that matters any...?)

Thank you in advance.
