2 problems: weird audio and addons
« on: February 13, 2007, 04:46:36 pm »

Hello,

I am running UQM (so happy about this btw) on my G4 in OS X.  When speaking with anyone during the game, the music seems to slow down.  this only occurs when another person/alien is speaking (i.e. the text is going by and the progress arrow is moving).  any clue as to why this is happening?  i have tried multiple different settings in the audio section, as well as turning subtitles on and off.

I am also trying to get the speech addon to work under os X, but to no avail.  i have moved the .uqm file to the proper folder in the package, and am able to run UQM in the terminal via command line but i have been unable to get it to work.  has anyone done this successfully?  any tips or step-by-step instructions?  I realise there are many threads on this topic, but no answers...

thanks!

Afaik, there have been no threads about this.
When an alien is speaking, the music is supposed to go softer (so that the speech is more audible), but not slower. If you have no speech packages, it shouldn't do that, but I just realise it might do that anyhow.
If you are using OpenAL sound, you may want to try MixSDL. It can be set using the command-line option "--sound=mixsdl", or from the "advanced options" setup menu.

As for how to use the speech; it should just work when you put the uqm-0.6.0-voice.uqm file in the same folder as the uqm-0.6.0-content.uqm file. I don't think you're supposed to run uqm directly from the .dmg file though, but I don't know much about the OSX release.
