There are some Mycon rambles that intrigue me: mycon014.ogg `...the system requires more energy. A convenient source lies beneath the crust...' mycon017.ogg `...incorporation of dense amphibole fibers ensure survival in environmental extremes...' mycon020.ogg `...entry of noise into the signal is unavoidable. We must include a filtering mechanism...' mycon032.ogg `... planetary transformer biot 94-18: take your place at the transporter dais...'
These Mycon rambles are spoken with a different voice than the others. Since they seem unlikely for Mycons (1.THEY are "planetary transformer biots", and do not name themselves so, ergo it's a Precursor reply recorded by the Mycon. 2."incorporation of dense amphibole fibers" - sounds like an inventor describing his invention. 3."Entry of noise etc." + "We must include a filtering mechanism" - Precursor scientists discussing their invention. 4."The system requires more energy. etc." - probably that's how they came out with the Deep Children, to give energy from beneath the crust to the Mycons at the surface - via heat) they seem to be recorded Precursor replies.
Now, let's extrapolate something about the nature of the Precursors from this voice: The voice is not the stereotypical "ancient, advanced alien race" voice (e.g. the Protoss voice from StarCraft). It is what we would call an enthusiastic researcher voice. So the Precursor were "just" curious scientists&discoverers, not an "ancient, wise race" as we would imagine!
(mycon022.ogg and mycon027.ogg are within apostrophes and suspension points. But they are spoken with a normal Mycon voice and seem very likely for Mycons, so we'll exclude them, we'll say that they are recordings of Mycon replies.)

Given the Precursors large size, the voice to me doesn't really fit. Personally, I think if Paul Reiche and Fred Ford had their choice of voice actors, I don't think much of the speech in the game would sound at all what it's like right now. For the Precursors, I actually would prefer a much deeper, possibly menacing sounding voice like Jeremy Irons or Bill Nighy. Just my opinion though.

Why not?
Incidentally, one of the few voices I actually liked in SCn3 was the interjections into Mycon speech (though not necessarily the Mycons themselves). It seemed fitting for its intended purpose: An ancient, distorted, and partially destroyed recording, worshipped and maintained by the Mycon as the "wisdom of the ancients," but making little to no sense in the context that its used. The disjointed, distorted voice seemed perfect for that.
