When I originally installed "The Ur-Quan Masters", it ran all audio properly. I recently replaced my cheapo 8738-chip based soundcard (which barely worked for me) with a Philips PSC706 (Acoustic Edge) soundcard. Since then, background music is the only thing that will still play.
No sound effects or voice at all. There are no anomalies like this for any other program. This is true for my Win98SE and WinXP partitions (same results for both). I thought it might be due to an audio mixing bug, but even the sound for selection on the starting screen is missing. Any ideas or suggestions?

You try disabling sound hardware acceleration? That was suggested in another thread to get around an Aureal bug, maybe it'll help here for the time being.

Apparently, it is related. By adjusting hardware acceleration to "basic", sound effects returned. Certainly not the best of solutions, but better than replacing my sound card again. Hopefully, the problem will "go away" (via program revisions or newer drivers) in the future.
Thanks.
