Hi I've looked for someone having a similar problem I'm having with no luck. I hope someone can help me out with some solutions on how to fix my problem. My husband and I have identical computers and UQM 0.6.2 has no problems at all on his computer. this is the Error i have been Receiving when I attempt to start the Game. TY for any help and suggestions in advance.
(( The instruction at "0x10014748" referenced memory at "0x000c0198". The memory could not be "Read" ))
as I said. my Husband and I have Identical computers. his having a slightly faster CPU.

If the computers are identical in hardware apart from CPU speed, the problem is likely to be with the software on the your computer. Judging from the error message, you're running Windows XP (possibly 2000).
I don't have the information necessary to say what the instruction at 0x10014748 is supposed to be, but you should be able to find more human-readable information in a file called stderr.txt in the UQM directory. If you can provide this information, we should have an easier time working out what's wrong.
At this stage, I can only suggest generic troubleshooting steps:
- Ensure that all drivers in use (particularly video and audio) are up to date.
- Delete all UQM configuration files (if you haven't got UQM to start, there's probably nothing important there) and reinstall UQM.
- Try using command-line options to try different audio and video backends for UQM (for example, MixSDL is often more stable than OpenAL, and pure SDL graphics work well on many systems that fail to use OpenGL.

Thanks, that helps nail things down a bit. UQM seems to be crashing somewhere between initialising SDL and opening the configuration directory. Possible sources of the crash are, as far as I can tell:
- Corrupt UQM installation (fix: reinstall UQM).
- SDL initialisation failure (fix: install a working version of SDL; the one installed with UQM should be OK and seems to be the one you have; reinstalling UQM and rebooting should fix this).
- uio (UQM I/O) system failure (may be caused by UQM being installed somewhere weird).
- Configuration directory read failure (may be caused by an invalid Windows profile directory).
- Memory or thread system internal failure (only possible if UQM or Windows has a bug, really).
All in all, this looks like a corrupt UQM install (in which reinstalling should sort things out), broken system library or a bug in UQM that, for some odd reason, only seems to manifest itself on your machine.
My suggestions at this point are to delete the UQM configuration files and reinstall UQM (to the default installation directory, if possible). If that doesn't help, it would be useful to know where your Windows profile is stored and where you installed UQM.
