They are found in Mycon space on Shattered Worlds, but...
How could you have completed the game without finding one? It is needed to get the Sun Device, to free the Chmmr, to complete the game.

Three words: "Kohr-Ah Death March".

Who said these are three words? Maybe Ur-Quan names have meanings, so Kohr-Ah may be, for example, "the valiant one".
(maybe "Kohr" and "Ah" are different words)

Ah, yes. Forgot that you can get things that way.

 Huh
How else can you free the [[Chmmr]] to get the [[Utwig Bomb]] improved to be able to destroy the [[Sa-Matra]]?!

(sorry for the [[]] tags, I've just written an article on the [[Ultronomicon]]

Well, if noone is going to answer the actual question, I guess I will.
Egg case shells can be found on Beta Copernicus I (the former Syreen home world), Gamma Scorpii I, and Gamma Brahe I.

Indeed it is not if you allow the Kohr-Ah to cleanse the Mycon. I never do this so I overlooked this way.

How do the egg cases help you get the Sun Device?

You must show an Egg Case to Talana to convince her that indeed the Mycon shattered Syra.
So that she will send you to recover the Penetrators from the vault at Epsilon Camelopardalis, and then send you to convince the Mycon to go to Organon (you don't get this option before).

ARGH!!! Then you can't find the Mycon homeworld because of that text that was cut.
Luckily, the wise and benevolent meep-eep assured us that the text WILL be included in the next release of UQM.

And only so will the number of Mycon ships guarding Beta Brahe 1 finite, so that you can get the Sun Device.
