I'd like to mention here some bits of information related to the Melnorme: 1. This very morning, I was just saying to subordinate Ochre `Fe-Fi-Fo-Fum! I smell the feet of a Hu-Hu-Man!' We laughed and laughed. What a synchronicity! They can laugh. (even very loudly: We MUST stop meeting like this, Captain! Ha, ha, ha Har, har, har snicker
2. Greenish keeps the MetaChron under his pillow, but since they don't have a head separated from the body, we must assume that the pillow is used to sit, not sleep, on.
3.Ahhh-YING!! Ahhh-YING! Ahhh-YING! Ahhh-Y Oh sorry, Captain. I was just meditating on the sorry state of your consciousness. Do you perceive any improvement? They meditate - it is either a species-wide belief or one limited to some Melnorme.
4.To us, blue ambience signifies a response to an unexpected threat it shows that we are under emotional distress and not incidentally it also lets us see our weapon consoles more clearly. They have yellow weapon consoles, since blue ambiance helps them see those.
5.A little superconductive spray-paint and Presto! Your lander can sustain a direct hit by a lightning bolt without crisping the passengers inside... usually. Since the job is so easy that a nymph could do it I expect all your landers will be treated in less than an hour. They undergo metamorphosis.
6.I had itchy pods this morning, Captain, and here you are! They have pods, so they may reproduce through seeds. Also, they confer a precognitive signification to the itches of their pods, and they probably are right to do so.

So what do you think of these? Are there any other alternatives?

1.) The "Fe-Fi-Fo-Fum" suggests that the Melnorme are larger then they appear, as such an analytical race, they probably know that the Humans had this same sentence in a fairy tale of old. It's good to know the Melnorme have a sense of humour .
2.) I'm not too sure if they have a body or not, you only see what appears to be their head in the com-links, so we can't really deliberate about it.
3.) Maybe, I heard that the Melnorme saw currency and influential trade as the most important aspects to their life, so maybe they have Gods of Wealth and Health . I don't understand the section about the "sorry state of your consciousness," does this speach happen when you sell someone to the Druuge or what? :/
It might also mean that the Melnorme are like the Arilou, and can travel through the Dimensions and such.
4.) Naturally .
5.) Nymph might just be slang in Melnorme for idiot, then again, they may very well go through growth stages, like ourselves.
6.) Again, "Itchy Pods" sounds like a saying, like the "sweet smell of success," Pods could also be refering to the moveable limbs on the Melnorme's "Head."

2.) I'm not too sure if they have a body or not, you only see what appears to be their head in the com-links, so we can't really deliberate about it. It just seems more normal (and funny!) that the oval shape is the head and the four limbs are the legs. Ah, and heed the melee portrait too. It's clear there that those are legs. Oops... their weapon consoles are red-purple. That's why only blue help at viewing them.
It might also mean that the Melnorme are like the Arilou, and can travel through the Dimensions and such. They haven't traveled through the portal near Chandrasekhar. They seem to have obtained their information on IDF from another source. Also, meditation is not related to IDF, think about the Pkunk. Hey, maybe it's just a joke.
5.) Nymph might just be slang in Melnorme for idiot, then again, they may very well go through growth stages, like ourselves. Ah, why not. But, apropos, we do not go through metamorphosis, that's something different.
6.) Again, "Itchy Pods" sounds like a saying, like the "sweet smell of success," Now, this is too far-fetched. What's the link?
Pods could also be refering to the moveable limbs on the Melnorme's "Head." They may be the pods, why not. But this doesn't mean that they, being pods, shouldn't contain seeds, spores or something.

"Itchy pods" is probably a twist of the old (human) wives' tale of itchy palms; it's supposed to signify that wealth is coming your way soon.
Nymph is not a typical stage of metamorphasis. It usually signifies a juvenile version of a species, where further growth and development does not fundamentally change its appearance.

For "itchy pods", see here You accepted that and you didn't accept Zoq=Frog and all those? Hmm.... "Itchy pods" are also the pods of a vine from Madagascar that give a horrible itchy feeling per touch, that lasts for hours. Search "itchy pods" here.

Sources, something? All my sources say that nymph IS a stage in the metamorphosis of some insects - not all, true, but they ARE a stage.

I have to say, Meep, the Dr. Seuss connection is iffy at best.
As for pods, why do they have to contain seeds? The Melnorme show no signs of being plant-like in the least. I personally always interpreted "itchy pods" to be some sort of disease, kind of like chicken pox or something. Seems weird that that would have a connection to the Captain's arrival, though. Maybe Greenish is allergic to humans?
As for the nymph thing, check this article:
