Help with time mod!!

Sorry if this is a stupid question but Im a bit new here...

I stumbled across this site a few days ago and decided to try out the game so I downloaded all the latest files and extras. 

The game seems really interesting but the thing that puts me off is that time limit.

I found the page with the time mod downloads but what do I do with them??

I unzipped the files and put them in the main folder and I also tried putting the unzipped files into the extras remix folder but it still doesnt seem to work!

Don't knock the time limit. The sense of urgency contributes to your immersion in the game. So what if you've got to start over once. Knowing what to do will get you get back where you were in no time.

You simply can ignore the time limit. You have about 5 times more than you need.
If you really get low on remaining time, we'll tell you how to use the mod.

umm...okay....not quite the response I was expecting...

I was kinda hoping to just play through once and take my time over it .  Im pretty busy at the moment in real life and I think if I had to start over then I would probably end up quitting rather than plod through stuff i'd seen before.

So roughly how many hours does it take to finish and how long is the time limit?

There's really no plodding, like was said, you get about 5x more time than you need and once you discover what needs to get done, the events just fly by.

As far as finishing it goes (and I'll go by game time more than real time since real time depends much on the habit of the player), you can make the time vary considerably.

The game-time record for this game is Oct 05, 2155, but that's with full knowledge of the game (see what I mean by "no plodding"?).

Then if you aren't really trying to get it quick but are trying more leisurely (pick up everything, do all the side quests, sightsee some, etc, before it starts getting boring to do that), you can finish a good average game by the middle of 2156.

The time limit is a plot device more than it is anything to seriously limit your game time.  As for that time, something will happen in the game to end it in either 2159 or 2160 depending on what you do in the game.  Really the time limit is a non-factor (and an eternity), as you learn what's going on in the game.

Usually most complaints about the time are from people that just want to beat the game right off without any challenge.

oh i didnt want to complete it without a challenge! That would be pointless and i would probably be bored long before i finished it.

i was just worried about playing for 20 hours then having to restart because i needed another hour or rushing and missing things towards the end.

ok you have convinced me, i will start playing tomorrow without the mod!

btw do you guys prefer the original or the remixed version?

like i said im only looking to play once so i would like to get the best possible experience  Grin

It depends. The Precursor remixes are very good - oops, I was just a word from revealing some spoilers -, I would personally put all of them. Some are not more exciting than the original... well, I'll exclude THAT one - yes, it's only one.
I'll send you a zip with all remixes in one, just put it in the remixes folder and don't forget to modify the "Target" of your UQM shortcut like this:
"<<UQM path>>" --addon uqmremix
- quotation marks included

thanks but i think i already have them, i ticked all the boxes during the installation and i got three zip files in my remix file - pack1,2 and 3 Smiley

No, you have only 3 remixes. Put this one too:

Don't forget that the remixes folder MUST BE \content\packages\addons\uqmremix.
You must put there:
This file:

And these:
uqm-remix-pack1.zip
uqm-remix-pack2.zip
uqm-remix-pack3.zip
(FROM http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php)

So download these and put these in the uqmremix folder.
Note that you don't need the file with the 3DO music from \content\packages\ anymore. You can safely delete it.

Well, seeing as I'm in the "The time limit was a bizarre contrivance and more annoying than immersive" camp.

Anyway, contrary to whate everyone is saying, it's quite possible to hit the time limit. While it's true that you have way more time than you need if you know what you're doing, you're not going to have any idea what you're doing ;]

Basically, you have to manually edit the source code to alter it. You can't actually turn it off, but you can either slow down time or just set the end point to some really distant time in the future.

I can't do this at the moment, but uh, I'm updated to .62 soon so I'll be making said change to the source. I know this is an older topic, but if you still want it...

You don't need to think with the game running. You can pause it. And if you return from an unsuccessful exploration (for example going to Epsilon Muscae in the hope that the source of the Probes is there) you can return to a previous savegame.

The Melnorme had a clue about that bit, but the 3DO version cut it out, so its lacking in UQM as well. But the Melnorme have some buyable information that hints to a limit, and if you talk to the ZFP youll get some info about it as well.
