Are the utwig mentioned anywhere??
« on: May 21, 2007, 01:42:11 am »

Just a quickie...trying to complete the game without using any info from the Melnorme, seem to be able to find everything apart from a reference to the Utwig/ultron quest. Pkunk gave info on 3 items but never actually refer to the Ultron itself or the purpose of the 3 items.

There must be something that puts you on the track of the Utwig? Thought it may be the Druuge but I don't think they talk about the Utwig until later on at a certain planet in Utwig space.

Any ideas???

Thankx

The Supox tell you about them. But noone tells you about the Supox.

Hmmm yeah i thought as much, so basically without stumbling upon the Supox or Utwig through a portal etc there is no way to complete the game without the Melnorme?

Ignoring the Melnorme greatly increases the difficulty of the game, but it can still be beat.

And yes, I believe there are other races reference the Utwig.

Didn't the utwig and suppox occupy someone's old sphere of influence? I think I found them hunting around for some SC1 race that wasn't there any more.

But I could be wrong.

Well, the Orz were where the Androsynth used to be...

But consider this: if you're trying to find things out from a clean start, without using previous knowledge (I'm just assuming this is the case; that you've done it before and that not talking to the Melnorme is just a challenge) then it would make sense to check out all the QuasiSpace portals anyway, just to see where they go.  One of the QuasiSpace portals is right in the area (though not actually within either sphere), so you can easily stumble upon them naturally.

Your assumption is correct i have completed the game previously. Your suggestion regarding QuasiSpace is exactly what i was thinking about with:

and seems to me a real solution to the problem.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated Smiley

Sorry , not sure about this - would love it if you could prove me wrong Smiley

I'm now fairly sure no one other than the Melnorme mentions their home constellation or even how to repair the ultron, though i suspect this would be clear even if you didn't know from previous games.

Still it's all a challenge Smiley

I don't get why someone wouldn't check the upper right corner at some point in their game. It's the most distant thing from where you start, of course there's something valuable out there!

After you free the CHMMR, and ask them about an anti matter bomb, they tell you

Quote
THERE ARE RUMORS OF SUCH A DEVICE, A PRECURSOR PLANETEERING TOOL
TO BE FOUND SOMEWHERE FAR TOWARDS THE CORE
IN THE POSSESSION OF A NON-HOSTILE ALIEN RACE.
WE CANNOT PROVIDE ANY MORE INFORMATION AT THIS TIME.

Which points you towards the Utwig.

Well, when I played the game I used the hyperspace map that came with the game with the sphere's of influence from Star Control 1 already on them.

Now that would be cool, if the hyperspace map in UQM came with the spheres of influence for the Star Control 1 races and when you found the race that currently occupied the space those spheres disapeared.

The original starmap features spheres of influence for both known and unknown races. Where they are known they are labelled.  The starmap is dated 2133. I would imagine that it is a relic from that time, preserved by the Star Control Mission and taken by Zelnic on the maiden voyage of the Vindicator from Vela to Earth. that is the most up-to-date map Zelnick has  to work with. Seems that people know of races occupying Persei, Giclas, Draconis, they just havent met them yet. Sadly there is no reference to races occcupying Librae or Hyades.

Hmm i dont think this post has added anything of value to the thread. Sorry!
