Does anyone ever feel bad about taking the Aqua Helix?
« on: June 15, 2007, 04:42:35 am »

I mean it's not like the Captain knows he can't win without it.

Why should I take it and used it to fix something for the clumsy Utwig?

And the Thraddash seem to like it so much...

Actually, private Hendrix accidentally broke it (or at least turned it off), after which they brought it aboard the flagship for further investigation. The Thraddash don't really give the captain a chance to explain himself.

Nah, I don't.  I mean, sure, it may be have been an important part of their cultural heritage, but was it really doing anything for them?  I mean, really?

On the other hand, it definitely helps the Utwig.  You do get told the Helix is needed to repair the Ultron--by, I think, the Pkunk and the Melnorme.  (And you can win without it, just at the cost of letting the Utwig be aniggilated.)

Seriously, I really felt bad when I took the Aqua Helix. I had a deep love for the Thraddash (especially after becoming their Great Teacher).

Yeah, I felt a little bad about it, especially since I was unable to return it to them.
On the other hand, if you feel that guilty, wait until the Threaddish all die off
and then go collect the item.

To be honest?

...

No.

But that was because I sent the Thraddash off to attack the Kohr-Ah, so the Helix was undefended, and they're about to get stomped flat by the Ilwrathi.

Years of playing adventure games have inured me to stealing everything that isn't nailed down (and some things that are) without a second thought; after all, anything I can pick up fits in my pockets. A big old helical thing is in no way different.

Yes, the first time I wanted to give it back.  I was focused on making allies and I hadn't found the Utwig yet...

Later I it occurred to me that's it's pretty rude to be stealing other people's treasured artifacts...

No, but I do feel bad about annihlating them at the hands of the Ilwrath so I can get it without them noticing.   Grin

Scum? I don't think so. "Master" is more like it.

I just wanted to make sure some people understand (I'm not singling anyone out, I just have seen plenty of people say that they were) that the Thraddash and Ilwrath are NOT extinct at the end of the game. in fact, if you return to either homeworld, they will still be guarded by a bazillion ships, and they will still contain plenty of healthy Thraddash/Ilwrath. Sorry, it was just getting on my nerves that people kept saying that they were annihilated or extinct.

That's not true, unless you are playing Nic's hacked UQM builds (he probably has this feature too, I don't know). When the war is over, the great Kohr-Ah rises from our ranks both homeworlds are deserted and visits at the ruins inform that "everyone and everything on this planet has been destroyed".
There is, however, a bug which causes you to still be able to discuss with the Ilwrath at Alpha Tauri by using a Caster (they speak the same words as when you speak to them during the war with the Thraddash).
Of course, it is entirely possible that there may be survivors, at least of one of the two races, as they are good designs and Paul/Fred wouldn't scrap them so easily.
