The quest for glory series holds a shining place in my heart next to star con =)
rounding out the triumvirate of glory is Civilization/Colonization

Those games i'll play whenever/wherever.

Console wise, i go suikoden and dragonwarrior.

Colonization... Now there is a great game that needs to be remade or ported.  All this talk of it makes me want to dust it off and see if I can get it working on my XP machine  Cool

Never played Colonization, but it sounds fun. There's a remake in the works at http://www.civgaming.net/col2/ Smiley

I'd generally have to say any game where you go around killing things for money so that you can build a better ship and kill things more effectively.

That'd be SC2 obviously.
Also there is Privateer (only played the first one),
and Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries (never played the recent ones that have come out). I used to be big on the online quest gaming thing a long time ago, but I'm not really into the net game thing anymore. (It gets bloody tiring having to listen to guys on the net repeatedly rant about how a 'real' female couldn't obviously have beat them, etc etc. You can only type the words 'what the bleeding f- does it matter if I'm female?' so many dozens of times before you start getting nasty about it and then feeling ucky for sinking to their level.)

Though I have to laugh at what you guys have to say about Colonization. (note, a laugh of agreement, not of mockery) Because that used to be one of my favorite games as well.

You can convince them that you're female if you attribute your skill to something to do with menstruation.

either that, or dazzle them with your ability "to do several things at oncee", where at least one ability should be "Shopping"...

anyway, getting back to the subject on hand, I have to say that while I liekd colonization, I never really felt it was as good as the original Civ. Other than that, advebnture games are more of my fortè. Gice me Space Quest, DOTT or Monkey Island any day!

Some of my favorite games:

Ah, SCUMM games. DOTT and Monkey Island are both wonderful games, but how is it that nobody's mentioned Sam 'n Max Hit the Road yet!? And let's not forget the game that started it all: the original Maniac Mansion, which I only was able to play on the NES.

The Space Quest series was highly amusing, but I didn't like 6 as much.

Let's see, Civ2 and 3 are fun, and I enjoyed Colonization back in the day.

Ultima 7 (both parts). Too bad 8 and 9 weren't very good. I feel sorry for Richard Garriot.
Dragon Warrior series (I've only played up to 5)
Final Fantasy 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 (I'll get to the rest soon enough)
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Vagrant Story
Fallout 1&2

Wing Commander 1, 2, and 3
X-Wing and TIE Fighter were great games, as was X-Wing Alliance.

Gabriel Knight 1 and 3. I didn't get into GK until relatively recently so I haven't had the chance to find or play 2 yet. The first one is still my favorite, and Jane Jensen is cooler than all of us.
The Longest Journey

The Street Fighter series
Marvel vs. Capcom 1&2
X-Men: Children of the Atom
War of the Gems
etc etc =)

Metroid Prime

There are more, I'm sure. I'm not into very many of the new games. There's too much of a tendency for stimulus/response and not enough thinking or at least story to make it interesting.

Wizardry (though I haven't played it in forever)
Final Fantasy 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 (All flawed. They could make a super-FF out of those components alone without adding any new stuff. From what I've seen and read of FF3, this is closer but still seriously flawed.)
Zelda 1, 2, 3
Metroid 1
Civilization 2 (too bad it crashes rapidly on my computer...), or in a pinch, 1.
Masters of Orion (too bad the combat AI is HORRIBLE and the ship designs worse and the modules ultra-breakable)
Command & Conquer, Starcraft (about equally, starcraft slightly more)
F-Zero (Something about Hovercraft...)
Punch-Out (NES or SNES)

Well if you wanted to be really technical about it...  In general (meaning: not all, but the overwhelming majority) female's brains arn't wired for: mindless agression, sense of direction/orentation, logical/stratigic thinking, math, etc.

This goes back millions of years, you could try argue it, but you would be wrong.  =)

Again... This is IN GENERAL, I'm not saying this applys to you.  If fact if it doesn't, more power to you, congrats.  But there is a reason why females don't get into video games as much as males, and also why a male might think that a girl couldn't beat him. (not saying this applys to me at all, just thought I would jump in with usless information for no reason, its 5:00 am here, I'm tired =) )

Anyways... I digress....

I have so many favorite games over the years its silly, heres a bunch in no particular order.

- Starcon2
- X-Com 1&2
- MajorMud
- Marvel Vs Capcom 2
- Quest for Glory Games (pre-part 5)
- Police Quest Games (before pt4 anyways)
- Monkey Island 1/2
- DOTT
- Duke 3d
- Doom2
- X-Men Vs Street Fighter
- Syndicate
- Zelda 1/2/Snes
- Metroid 1/GC
- FF7/Tactics
- Phantasy Star 1-3

*laughs* Paxtez, I have to admit that this is a rather hard post to reply to without getting personal about it.

*ponders*
Well, except for the utter lack of direction, I seem to be devoid of all the other 'female' traits that you mentioned.
But that doesn't really satisfy my question, which is 'what does it matter?' There's nothing in the equation that I can think of except for simple ego or pride. And I still don't understand -why- it makes a real difference. Do those offended males see everything as some sort of contest..?

hmm... Either this is turning out to be another one of these posts where we all post our favourite games for infinity and the same game gets repeated n+1 times, or it takes a brand new direction and we can discuss the combination of women and computer gaming...

Why doesn't this excite me at all....

I enjoy just about any console RPG as long as it keeps me interested.
Played FF1-9, japanese-only excluded except 5, and I have to say 3/6 is the best.  8 was the worst but it's on a rebound... I hope.  Might play 10 soon.
Suikoden Series, own all three, beat all three with 108 characters.
Persona 1,2
Star Ocean 2.
Also play Dynasty Warriors 3 (Trying to rent DW4 but it's too damn popular!  One of those few gems that's never advertised but is still popular), Castlevania Symphony of the Night, all kinds of PC games (RTS, FPS).
Just about the only type of game I dislike is sport games... they all seem the same to me.

I would have to say my other favorites are:

1) Space Empires VI (PC)
2) Land of Devastation (classic PC - BBS)
3) Red alert (PC)
3) Doom 2 (PC)
3) Starcraft (PC)
3) River City Ransom (NES)

All except RCR heavily modded.
- Starcraft using custom maps for forcing "Small squad tactics"  A single battlecruiser is a major assault force all by itself.  Securing economic territory after driving the enemy out is important.
- Doom 2 has a nice variety of modding options.  Exploding blood makes it pretty dangerous Wink  The DMarmy "virtual multiplayer" mod is pretty cool too.  I liked to set the music at minimum volume, voices at max.  Spooky, Spooky, Spooky GRARRR!  Cheesy
- RA: nuke choppers and $1 infantry, nuff said Grin
- LOD - the ability to actually write code and compile it into the game.  Wow!  Very nifty.  Only downside is today's clock speeds are too high.  I keep a 486-66Mhz PC on my desk for this one.
- SE4 - Very moddable too.  Wrote a mod that allows a player to live without planets, ("Pirates & Nomads" mod), and got into the gold beta for that.  Life as a Pirate race bears a resemblance to UQM, except you have a lot more flexibility in ship design (any component that dosen't put you over your hull's mass limit), and you can lay mines, ambush and capture unescorted cargo ships, etc.
- River city; beat gang members up with a garbage can or anything else you find lying around, steal their lunch money, then go stuff your face in the mall to power up?  Whee!  Like a cross between FF and street fighter.

Wait a moment -- is that the game where you go in to shops and buy, say, a hot dog, and when you eat it it says something like "Health +5! Strength maxed out. Speed maxed out" because you improve your powers by buying food, and the cheaper foods have a limit beyond which they won't help your stats, and this limit rises as the foods become more expensive (so, for example, sushi has a max of Strength 50 while a hot dog won't help your strength get above 20, but it will heal you up a little anyway)
and there is a secret magic store where you can buy amazing foods that will increase your stats without limits (aside from the 8 bit maximum), and stuff like that?

That game was parodied on CuteWendy a while back... one of the funnier bits that ever appeared in it. It culminated in the main characters facing up to the two brothers, their goldfish, a large pack of alpacas, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra... (or something like that).

Is this River City Ransom?
