Good news Amiga, you're actually 2nd lowest. It's early days though - still time to make the semis

LOL I'm the lowest ranking on that list! I guess I need some practice.
Amiga_Nut got

Don't get discouraged, Amiga_Nut!  You actually played two tough games to start out.  Although, practice always helps!  :  )  I don't think that I won a single game in my first tournament.

Hey Cedric, What are the best video/audio settings for Screen VidShot?  I ran a test with the defaults and I guess it used a RAW capture, which took FOREVER to process (not to mention the disk space it took up).  Any tips would be appreciated.  I want to get it set up for the next session.

Yeah, I kinda got pwned. I'll get redemption next time I play. Hopefully I will be able to play on Saturday, but chances are that I will be on the road going on vacation. If my family decides to leave on Sunday, then it will be good.

Precursor Prize update!

We welcome two more participants: abad and Bluhman!
Some more upsets, this is going to be a tight league. Noone is unbeaten! Shiver pipped Elvish_Pillager while Tomsik spanked Cedric6014 (grrrr).

Results from Saturday 14/7/07
Shiver   b Bluhman, 148 pts remaining
Tomsik   b abad, 49
Tomsik b Cedric6014, 38
Shiver b Elvish_Pillager, 35
Buhman   b Abad,   32
Cedric6014 b Bluhman, 145
Elvish_Pillager b Bluhman, 119
Shiver b Tomsik, 98

Cedric6014        5      4      0      1     392     38      8     354
Shiver               5      4      0      1      350    58      8      292
Elvish_Pillager   5      3      1      1     262     35      7      227
Galactus           2      2      0      0     123       0      4     123
Tomsik             3      2      0      1       87      98     4      -11
Elerium             3      1     1       1     111      88     3       23
Bluhman           5      1      0      5      32     523     2     -491
Amiga_Nut        2      0      0      2        0     134     0    -134
Abad                3      0      0      3        0     146     0     -146
Critta                3      0      0      3        0     220     0     -220

Despite his best efforts, Galactus still has some games to make up, as do Abad, Tomsik and Amiga_Nut.
The league will officially take a break next weekend for the Fot Face-Off Knockout Tournament. We may be able to squeeze in a few catch up games at that time though.

P.S. When I say no-one is unbeaten, I mean no-one except Galactus

I beat Tomsik by 98 points some time before Bluhman's last match. You might want to factor that in there.

Edit: Oh there it is, thanks

We might want to think about adding a rule to these tournaments that deals with games that crash, or those where the lag makes them unplayable.  My personal opinion is that since you cannot place blame on anyone for the stoppage of play in a crash situation, then a mandatory restart should be enforced.  The reason that I say that is because in many cases, you might be able to recreate the remaining ships at the time of the crash, but recreating the condition (crew count) of those ships is next to impossible, and that could really affect the outcome.  So, to avoid any controversy/protest, a restart should be the only option.

In the case where the lag is horrible, and one player chooses to drop out, there should be no penalty assessed.  Actually, I think that we may have run into this one before, and that may be the way it was handled, but it should be stated in the opening rules, so there is no confusion.  Plus, it should be stated that to "qualify" for no penalty, you need to drop out with at least 100 pts of ships left (or something like that), to avoid people dropping out just to keep from taking the loss.  If someone drops out, supposedly due to lag, and only has one ship left, then maybe a loss would be charged with 150 pts against.

In any case, at the very least, these situations and how best to handle them should be discussed.

This may lead people to pretend that their computer crashed in order to restart a game where they are losing. I am in favour of, where possible, beginning where the melee crash. i.e figuring out what ships people had l;eft and agreeing how many crew were left on each ship. I do not believe the impact of this approach on the game is anywhere near as large as the discrepancy of starting all over again.

I would suggest you need 165  pts to justify a dead melee and a restart to to poor lag (= one big ship plus a bit). So it would be important to call lag problems before you lost 35 points worth of ships.

Any default is a 150 point penalty loss for the purposes of league competition.

Further ideas anyone?

Also, even though we are still sorting out this Fot Face-off, I hope that those of you who are behind on your league games (Galactus, Elerium, abad, Critta, Amiga_Nut, Tomsik), can still show up on Saturday. It will be a good opportunity to play some league games!

Hi folks

This weekend the Precursor Prize League resumes. Joy!

Some of the participants are a few games behind so it would be very prudent for you to show up. If you get too far behind you risk defaulting games or being removed from the league. We don’t really want this to drag on forever like the Kohr-Ah cup did.

Anyhoo the following definitely need to show up:
Amiga_Nut (played 2)
Elerium (played 3)
Galactus (played 2)
Abad (played 3)
Tomsik (played 3)
Critta (played 3)

If you believe you are at risk of not being able to show up, send me a message.

The aim will be to get every to have played 5 to 7 games by the end of the session

See you all Saturday! We’ll kick off 4.00pm sharp NY time.

Well... not really at this point. But please show up, many of us have already played most of their league games and need something to pummel.

Whew another melee session full of awesomeness. No actual upsets, Galactus got within a Shofixti and VUX of Cedric6014 but that's hardly earth shattering.

Results from Saturday:
Cedric6014 b Galactus, 17
Elerium b Galactus, 51
Elvish Pillager b Tomsik, def
Shiver b Elerium, 92
Galactus b Tomsik, 49
Shiver b abad, 82
Cedric6014 b abad, 98
Elerium b Tomsik, 76

So the standings look like this

                       P     W   T/A     L        F       A     Pts    Diff
Cedric6014        7      6      0      1     507      38      12     469
Shiver               7      6      0      1      524     58      12      466
Elvish_Pillager   6      4      1      1     412      35       9      377
Galactus           6      4      0      2     220      68       8      152
Elerium             6      3     1       2     238     180      7       58
Tomsik             6      2      0      4       87     375      4      -288
Bluhman           5      1      0      5      32      523      2     -491
Amiga_Nut        3      0      0      3        0     199      0     -199
Critta                3      0      0      3        0      220      0     -220
Abad                5      0      0      5        0      326      0     -326

Still some way to go but looks like the top five have broken clear and will duke it out for play-off positions. I'm top yay, but I still have yet to play Elvish or Shiver - eep

Amiga_Nut and Critta are on the verge of being dropped from the league. They will need to turn up next week and play 4 games at least to avoid this. Otherwise, all is going smoothly!

So we'll see everyone this coming Saturday 4pm NY time for more action

Okay, so If the table looks funny to you its because Critta and Amiga were droppe4d from the league due to lack of games played

Results from last Saturday:
Shiver b Cedric6014, 64
Elvish_Pillager b Galactus, 87

                       P     W   T/A     L        F       A     Pts    Diff
Shiver               7      6      0      1      519     58      12      461
Elvish_Pillager   6      4      1      1     421      35       9      386
Cedric6014        6      4      0      2     348     102      8      246
Elerium             6      3     1       2     238     180      7       58
Galactus           5      2      0      3     107     155      4      -48
Tomsik             6      2      0      4       87     375      4      -288
Bluhman           5      1      0      5      32      523      2     -491
Abad                5      0      0      5        0      326      0     -326

Only  a handful of games left. Looks like a frikken have to beat EP to even make the semis damnit
