I heard you can dig/drill/somthing like that Minerals...how? is it for real? or the only way to get minerals is with the lander?
And, another thing, Are there any ceat codes for this? just for some more money...
Hope you can help, Saar.

The only way to get minerals is go out with the lander and find them. Talk to the captain about this, he'll set you straight. Once you find good places for minerals you'll get more than enough RU to sustain yourself for a couple of trips...
Remember too that there are other ways (3 I can think of) to gain RU without mineral gathering. Usually I take it upon myself to utilize two of those ways during the game...after all mineral gathering is boring...but you don't have to do it a lot...that's part of learning the game too...if you get bored and want RU cheats then you have a challenge ahead of you to play the game effectively...

Digging Minerals was something from SC1, where you could build mines that worked automatically. But you StarShip in SC2 ain't equipped for that. Also in SC3, the colonies mined their own minerals

We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

You can also gain RU's by stocking up on crew just before you've killed 1000 of them. Then kill the thousandth crew and sell the rest back to the station at an increased rate.
Very lame.

For the 3,000 RU that it costs to kill 1,000 crew (not counting thecost of Crew Pods) so that you may recieve your "discount", you can instead buy ALOT of fuel.
A better strategy is "don't let 1,000 crew die"
If you're a complete bastard, here's the most devious "non-cheating" method I know of for making quick cash:
Load your ship end-to-end with fuel tanks (hi-ef tanks if you've got 'em) and sell 100 crew to the Druuge in exchange for fuel, then head back to the starbase and sell the fuel, at quite a handsome profit. This only works once, after that the Starbase gets cranky with you. (you may also be able to use the Burvix caster or Mycon Eggshells if you don't want to sell your crew)
Another quick cash grab can be had by heading to the Pkunk homeworld, where they will gift you three Fury starships, which fetch quite a pretty penny back at the Starbase. This reportedly works about once per year in game-time.. The Arilou and Umgah will also give you free ships to sell, but they're further away than the Pkunk are, and you might have to complete a quest to get the ships; therefore they are not as profitable.
Anyone else have some good fund-raising strategies that don't involve bugs and/or hex editors?

Yes the Druuge trick is one of the two I mentioned...brings in a ton of RU...1000 fuel units X 20 RU = 20000RU and an interesting message from the Druuge about being "robbed blind" lol
The other one I use is that I usually end up running an insane surplus of credits with the Melnorme - no reason to buy the information after you know what to do - you can win the game without buying even one informative fact from the Melnorme... 1000 credits = 20000RU. I can usually get in the neighborhood of 8 of the rainbow planets pretty easily and add the 500 bio units the Umgah give you, so want for credits isn't an issue...no need to have 2000+ credits on balance with the Melnorme, so better it be used as RU... I can usually do the fuel exchange with the Melnorme three times before my credits get low enough that I can still use him for midair refueling but not waste credits with him...
Usually end up with around 100K RU when I'm done.

The Druuge are off to the far right side of the map, as for who they are, they're just a race of slave traders that you can encounter if you fly by their area. Fairly unscrupulus species if you ask me, but they can be useful in gaining of surplus RU's.
I believe that they run the Crimson something-rather corporation.
I've just replaying the game after 5 years so I'm still trying to remember everything.
Remember, part of all the fun is finding all this out on your own, go exploring, kill enemy ships to get some more RUs. Usually the Slylandro Probes that wander all over hyperspace are usefull for 550 RU each. They get more abundant as the game goes on, and trust me, they are a bitch to kill in the beginning, their electric bolt weapons get ya everytime and do a massive amount of damage per salvo.
If you want cheats or major hint spoilers, go look for a walkthrough, there are alot out there and links here to find them.

my 1000 crew method was a joke (though I think it would work for the discount, if you happen to KNOW you have 999 dead folks) Yeah, the better strategy is to lose as few crew as possible (though if you want to do all the plot, there are a few required casualties).

I remember the old PC-Version, where the price changed with the 1000th crewmember you've bought off the station. It didn't matter if Cmdr. Hayes tells you abaout the change in price of a member of his crew. When you start selling your crew, the price dropped again, when you've put the 1000th crew-member back on the station.
Is this another change between the PC and the UQM -versions?
