Scum? I don't think so. "Master" is more like it.

Hmm...this is actually tough. I would say that I am a mix of several races...think of a genetic hybrid between the Kohr-Ah, the Kzer-Za, the Utwig, the Spathi, the Mycon, and the Dnyarri.
Kohr-Ah: I am somewhat saddistic, though I am not genocidal. And I love to creep people out. Kzer-Za: I love to be in charge, though I also have a tragic past. I will do things that seem absurd or even wrong at first, but it's usually for peoples' own good. Utwig: I whine sometimes after I've been hurt...or I do something stupid. Spathi: I can be witty at times, especially when I'm nervous. Mycon: I am somewhat religious, and I have some rather...different views. Dnyarri: I am misunderstood and keep to myself often, though I have been told that I'm far beyond many other people my age in the respect of comprehension.

"The Kohr-Ah are welcome in my galaxy any day -- it's those damned creepy Arilou that I worry about...opening portals to God-knows where and gaining perverse pleasure from manipulating the affairs of non-IDF beings...total smegheads they are." -Emperor Volusianus of the Empire of Volusianus.

Utwig: I whine sometimes after I've been hurt...or I do something stupid. 1. The true Utwig personality is the one after they get their Ultron back, not before. I.e. not whiny and depressed. 2. Don't heed the Utwig voice, at least after they get their Ultron back. Let's just say that they have been depressed for so long that their voice has remained stuck, or that they feel obligated to whine because they still have the Mask of Ultimate Embarrassment and Shame. Or that they don't actually have that voice.
Dnyarri: I am misunderstood and keep to myself often, though I have been told that I'm far beyond many other people my age in the respect of comprehension. Comprehension at a Dnyarri? What are you referring to? The ability to comprehend foreign languages or the ability to comprehend other people's feelings?

Kohr-Ah: I am somewhat saddistic, though I am not genocidal. And I love to creep people out. ...while the Kohr-Ah are genocidal, and not at all sadistic, and they don't love to creep people out. I agree. I've seen no indication that they enjoy causing pain--only that they have no problem with killing (I would concede that they don't seem to care if they cause pain while doing this, but that isn't the same thing). The killing, even, they seem to treat more as a duty--something that must be done. The Ilwrath, on the other hand, are certainly sadistic--and a case could be made that the Umgah are, too.
And when you tell the Kohr-Ah they're creepy, they only say this:
Seeing that I represent your imminent termination as well as the termination of your entire species I think your fear is well justified. Nonetheless, you require cleansing. They don't seem especially pleased or displeased at the description, only noting that is "justified".

Yes, the Kohr-ah are pretty understated, straightforward, and emotionless about what they do (unlike the Kzer-za, who show emotion more and like to use fear and intimidation). I'd say that makes them creepier and more disturbing, but I don't think that's their intention.
Actually, speaking of sadistic, doesn't the SC2 manual hint at the Kzer-za torturing people for information in reference to Chi and the rest of the missing Tobermoon crew?

Yes, that was it. Those who wrote the manual probably intended that the Ur-Quan were guilty for that, but they made a few errors which leave the situation ambiguous: Three days out, as you approached the perimeter of that cursed Oort Cloud, you found the Tobermoon - derelict and tumbling through space. The deep burns along her hull were mute evidence she'd seen combat. And lost. The discovery was, of course, a great shock to Captain Burton. Unconsciously she chewed her bottom lip, and for the first time her handsome face showed the awful strain of the past twenty years. She'd been engaged to Captain Chi. Through the decades she'd clung to the hope she'd see him again, kept alive the dream they'd shared of marriage and children and a life together. Now the dream was shattered. She knew he was gone, even though there was no body to mourn over. Strangely, there were no bodies at all on board. And most of the important ship systems were intact. Do you remember how Burton wondered, tears brimming in her blue eyes, if Officer Chi and the other crew members had been taken prisoner? How her words conjured up a picture in your mind of the Earthlings being tortured - their ordeal provoking mirth in the soul-less Ur-Quan. - "Deep burns" - the Dreadnought Fusion Blaster makes a big hole, and fighters are vulnerable to point defense. - "Vital systems intact" - Let's say that the Dreadnought didn't have time to salvage the vessel. - They didn't discover the Unzervalt colony - true, the underground Precursor installation was not yet activated, and the colonists made their crops in a purposeful random pattern, but twenty thousand years along the Path of Now and Forever should have taught the Ur-Quan how to find even hidden colonies.

Even ignoring the discrepancies in the story, all it really says is that Burton thought it was a possibility. It seems to me that it's the kind of thing that people attribute to the enemy ("If they catch you they'll do HORRIBLE HORRIBLE THINGS. Proof? Well, I don't have any proof, but I heard from this one guy...") whether or not there's any evidence. It's like, obviously they'd do that--they're the bad guys!

Dag, I always thought the Umgah were funny after you freed them from the talking pet. Maybe I just have a weakness for general silliness.
