Hey newbies! Do you enjoy online melee but can't cope with the trauma of being crushed like a grape under Elvish Pillager's treads as his tank rolls slowly over your mangled husk? Then this very first pillow fight is just the thing for you -- a super melee tournament with no veteran players allowed!
Date: Sunday, August 19th, 2007 Place: #UQM-Arena on irc://chat.freenode.net Time: Two hours earlier than Cedric's tournaments. To be absolutely clear on the exact time you should show up, see below...
- 4 AM Sydney
- 6 AM Otaki
- 11 AM Los Angeles
- 12 PM Denver
- 1 PM Chicago
- 2 PM New York
- 7 PM London
- 8 PM Paris
- 9 PM Helsinki
Tournament structure: It's a Swiss tournament. If you lose a round, you aren't ejected from the tournament but instead play against the other beaten players. There will be three rounds, then possibly a final bout between the two top participants if a clear winner has not emerged.
---Game rules---
1) Maximum fleet size of 200 points. 2) Only one of each ship type is allowed in your fleet. 3) You must have your team set up before connecting to another player for melee. Do not adjust your fleet once you've connected to an opponent. 4) All ships (including Thraddash) are allowed. 5) The organizer’s decision is final on all matters. Hopefully I won't have to make any. 6) The following horrible jerks cannot participate in this tournament:
- Elvish Pillager
- Tiberian
- AngusThermopyle
- Cedric6014
- Stara

This is my kind of tournament. Unfortunately, I'll probably not be able to make it this Sunday. Rats.

The turn-out wasn't very impressive. We got a decent number of people to show up, but due to various problems only three tournament matches were held. Before I list the matches, here's what went wrong:
- alephresh - Can't play against anyone outside of Israel without terrible lag. This seems to be a common problem over there -- Israeli players should PM each other and get some games worked out! Sorry dude.
- quantum mechani - Couldn't host, had problems joining other games.
- Mina - Had lag and connectivity issues.
- Garrett - Showed up very late.
- C Bob - Dropped out.
Now here's how the three matches went:
- Amiga Nut defeats quantum mechani by 63 points.
- Lurker narrowly squeaks out a win over C Bob by 30 points.
- Amiga Nut defeats Lurker by 54 points.
Amiga Nut wins the pillow fight! Maybe next week someone will prove their mastery of the pillow over him, but not if we get the same kind turn-out. Get it together, newbies.

A lot of folks have connectivity issues first up when they attempt netplay, they often get ironed out after a few attemps. I'd say you should be pretty happy witrh that turnout - a few new people who will hopefully be back.
