Hello.
« on: August 19, 2007, 07:03:19 am »

I'm a new user. Went through the FAQ. Found very little about posting. So here's an introductory thread. I use very long sentences when I wanna. So there.

Star Control. Best game ever. The first would have been better if there was, say... a GRID. Not a spinning 3-D map, no-no! Star Control II was very inspiring. I played the original PC version, then your UQM version, for which I am extremely grateful by the way, and was disappointed only in the voiceover department. Star Control III, from my limited experience, looked very cool in terms of complexity, and the 2.5D thing seemed cool in a fad kinda way, but it just didn't feel like Star Control at all. Star Control IV was also pretty cool.

Gotcha. Everybody knows there ain't such thing.

Well, I'll save a thread anyway,

And would like to ask if anybody has any idea as to what artificial voice programs were used for the Slylandro probes, the Chenjesu, the Mmrnhrm (sp?) and the Chmmr. That having been said, was the voiceover work fully automated for those above (besides Slylandro, in which case it is blatantly obvious:

Weh com in piss.
Rehmote proeb prugram'd to replicate -- recurd de-da -- contact halien species.)

Only the Slylandro Probes used a voice simulator. All other species were voiced by either professional voice actors, or (most of them) by various TFB employees (see here, under, "starring the voices of, for the complete cast).
To get the robotic voice for the Chmmr, they applied certain effects - don't ask me what effects.
The Probe's voice simulator is named 840-AV in the cast above, which may mean that it was a built-in voice of the Apple Macintosh Quadra 840AV.

That's a shame. I'll see if I can find anything on 840-AV, though. Thank you, sir.
