Star Control-related dreams
« on: September 26, 2007, 05:33:04 pm »

So did you ever have any Star Control dreams? I've just had one this afternoon (I was really tired this time, normally I don't remember my dreams):

I was flying my Precursor tug in 3D just next to the Falayalaralfali TrueSpace eddy, and I noticed some ships quite similar to the Mauler. Then I remembered that, earlier in the dream, I had discovered that what makes the Mauler cannon so powerful is that there is a device that launches the shell (sic!).

From this, I surmised that the Arilou use those Mauler-like ships to sustain the Falayalaralfali eddy, and thus that the Mauler's design was stolen from the Arilou by the Druuge (in the state of semi-dreaming before I awakened, I continued my reasoning and hypothesized that they have taken it from Vortex Spawners bought from various customers).

I'm sure I had some other SC dreams (few and far between), though I can't remember them anymore. Well, except one, which wasn't 100% related with SC. I was the captain of a ship that had a very large and high command room with wide, tall black windows; from then on, that's what I imagined that the interior of a Jugger looks like.

EDIT: Also see this old thread on the same subject.

I don't recall having any Star Control dreams. I've had several Star Wars dreams, lots of vampire
related dreams, Matrix-like dreams, end-of-the-world dreams. But even when I was playing SC2
several hours a day, every day, I don't think I had dreams about it.

Oh yes, I've had many dreams about Star Control!  Most of them are fragments, and they end really fast; good dreams always end quickly Sad

I've had dreams where I'm the captain on the Earthling Cruiser, and I'm firing on a Dreadnought.  Other times, I see hundreds of ships from Star Control flying around in 3D, and they're all talking to each other through video chats.  There's always something telling me that, Star Control will not end anytime soon, and that there is an extremely long way too go.

I remember in the TFB website news, it read somewhere that "Paul is fired up with ideas", and I'd love to see what they are someday...

I've had an X-Com dream, I swear I did. I was in my bedroom asleep then all of a sudden a Chrysallid burst through the door, needless to say I woke up and was scared s***less Tongue

Well, if we are simply talking about freaky dreams regarding computer games, my freakiest dream ever had to do with Fallout Tactics. I'd been playing the game quite ardently for a week or so, and really enjoyed it despite it's problems. And of course, I'd named the main charcter after myself.

So I was dreaming about one of the missions, slowly advancing with Stitch and Farsight through burning rubble, enemy fire sporadically appearing and being silenced by Farsight. And then suddenly, I look upwards. And I can see the screen, and realise that I'm only playing the game, I'm not in it.

So suddenly I'm sitting in my chair, looking at the screen. I can see my soldiers down there, in the exact position I was holding just a few seconds ago, and realise that to them, it's all real. They're really down there dying for me. As i try to shake the sleep from my head I realise that this isn't quite right. My room is dark, it's the middle of the night, I should be sleeping in my bed.

And then it hits me. I am sleeping in my bed, just a few metres to my left and if I look over I'm going to see myself sleeping. And I really don't want to, but for some reason I feel complelled to look over at myself lying fast asleep in the bed. And then the sleeping me sits up and opens it's eyes.

And then I'm awake in my bed, sitting up with my heart racing and staring at my computer chair, which is thankfully empty. But for a second I''m sure that dream-me is still around somewhere in the room, hidden, bercause I can remember the terror he/I felt when I opened my eyes.  I had to physically get up and make sure the computer was off, and that I wasn't  hiding behind my desk. It left me feeling really spooked.

For Star Control, I have one dream connecting to it:

First there were some events that don't have a connection to it. The last thing in this dream was a text floating in the air:
"--- END OF REPORT ---"

Those words flashed in my eyes still as I woke up.

You know, I have strange dreams about these things all the time. The most interesting one happened a while ago. A few days before it, I had been playing Earth 2150 [just before I got SC2 from this site] and I couldn't win this one mission. I stopped to play SC2 for the first time and I had much *buttery enjoyment* for about a week. Then I had a dream where I used a slightly different tactic in 2150 and blew away all opposition. The most striking feature of this dream was that there was a Dynarri [God, I hope I spelled it right] sitting on the table of my room, apparently for no real reason, while tried this new technique. When I woke up, I started up Earth 2150, used the same tactic as that in the dream, and it worked! Is this weird or what?

I remembered another SC2 dream. I was in some star system, then I tried to steer my flagship through the sun (which is possible in the game) and after that I saw a Kohr-Ah speaking something. Don't remember what.
