The Best Hyperspace Music
« on: October 26, 2007, 10:51:46 pm »

This has been discussed before but I forgot. There are lots of Hyperspace remixes out there and probably I haven't even heard them all. I feel the one in the Precursor's remix pack has not preserved the original atmosphere of hyperspace. Out of the ones I have heard so far, I think Jouni Airaksinen's Re-enter mix is by far the greatest. In case someone hasn't heard that one, I point you to this link:

http://koti.mbnet.fi/tibe9mm/hyperspace-re-enter.ogg

Actually, this is not just the greatest Hyperspace remix, but the best piece of music ever made.

I remember there was discussion about whether the hyperspace music could vary depending on the situation in the game. The core-team could maybe give insights on this.

HyperSpace Electro Blast FTW IMHO.

Alternate tracks are supported for the StarBase (low power and normal operation), Spathi (Fwiffo, Safe ones, other), and Yehat (rebels vs Royalist/original).
Support for alternate tracks in other places can be added very easilly if there is a need.
What different situations in the game were you thinking of for using an alternate HyperSpace track? Being out of fuel? Being in enemy territory?

What, nobody plays 'What is love?' when in Hyperspace? Tongue

But yeah seriously I agree with Tiberian, that's the best hyperspace remix I've still got.

I must point out that the Re-enter mix is basically just the original mod song. What I did I rendered the separate instruments as separate tracks and then mixed those tracks again by adding some effects and balancing the sounds. Only thing really not part of the original and just addition to this mix are the space-wind fx at the beginning. So in a sense, you're just hearing what the original Riku's module version could have been, if the trackers had better mixing and effecting capabilities.

I knew that, but I don't think it changes anything.

To Meep-eep: I was thinking about at least  when the ship is equipped with the Chmmr crystals and some other unspecified important game-events. Being out of fuel would also be good.

The ship being equipped with the Precursor bomb sounds like a good occasion for another track. If there is any interest in making a track for that, adding the code to support it should not be a problem.
Out of fuel is less interesting imho, as there wouldn't be a nice transition, and most people will rarely hear it anyhow.

Could do something akin to Skies of Arcadia, and have the Hyperspace theme slightly alter itself in each of the Areas of alien hyperspace.

Return posts are fun.

lol @ Tiberian

Wink

well, this is more a remaster than a remix, then.

After been away from a forum for such a long time, and coming back as if nothing had happened, at least, that's what I term a return post.
