How to get the game running on kubuntu
« on: November 06, 2007, 10:32:14 am »

Now, firstly, im deeply sorry for all those who've read similar topics a million times in the past.
I am sorry that I'm a complete newbie on both linux and, since i never got any of stuff like this to work on any windows-based computer either, also with 3rd party mods.

Fact remains, i wanna play the game.
Sourceforge mirrors for linux dl wont work and actually at this point, i only want to know if it at all possible to make the game run with kubuntu. (v. 7.10)

If so, where I can get the game, how the hell does it work and so on and so on.

Thanks in advance, Markku.

Isn't the software available in the add/remove programs or synaptics package manager of Kubuntu? (I'm using Ubuntu myself, I am not sure if there is any difference except in the GUI).

Yes, this should do the trick.

You'll have to download the speech files separately, however, if you want those as well:

I'm not sure if the Kynaptic package manager accesses the same repositories. So, if you don't have Gnome installed, you'll have to install Synaptic to access the Ubuntu repositories:

Installing Synaptic
1. Click K > System > Kynaptic .
2. In Kynaptic, click Edit > Find.
3. In the "What" field, type Synaptic.
4. Right click Synaptic and select Install if it is not installed yet.
5. Wait for the program to finish then close Kynaptic.

Installing the Game
1. Click the K > System.
*Notice that the Synaptic Package Manager has been installed.*
2. Click Synaptic Package Manager.
3. Do a search for "uqm" and you should find everything you need for the game(except the speech files, as noted above).

Hope that helps.
