Look at what I found while looking for a walk through for 1213.
Go to the part about Adventures in the Galaxy of Fantabulous Wonderment. It mentions Star Control! Now I'm going to have to play this thing.

Yes, SC2 is the indy game developers game. Gate88 also was inspired by SC2.
