I’m changing my name to JonoPorter, it used to be BioSlayer. Since people are losing their jobs and getting kicked out of school for stuff found online. I decided I should play it safe and change it.

That's a little odd. I don't think you have any dirt on you here at these forums. When people get nailed for something they posted on the internet, it usually involves a LiveJournal account.

Agreed. I can hardly imagine anyone would fire you for your political or religious opinions, which is the only thing outside of programming I can recall you ever discussing on the forum. Also, maybe you should delete this thread for security in a bit. otherwise your pursuers can still link your new and old identity.

Sadly, I think that's precisely what he's referring to. As much as I would like to think the world is more enlightened about free expression than it was in the past, that's often not the case.

But how in gods name could that get him fired/expelled though? I mean sure, if he gets caught complaining about his job on facebook, or posts pictures of himself drunk on myspace, I can see how that could work out badly (although it shouldn't). But religion and politics?

That and sex are the 3 things you should never discuss with anyone at work. I could definitely see how a manager with conflicting views and a minimal amount of scruples could use that against someone, and they would never know it. Of course, hunting that information down on the internet for that express purpose is a new level in low, but I have no doubt it happens.

No I’m just worried some idiot will find out that the name I used on the internet has the word slayer in it, and suddenly think I’m violent or some such nonsense. I could care less about people finding out about my political and religious views.

Also it has been weird when people who I have collaborated with on projects start each e-mail with “Dear BioSlayer,”

I suppose that's also a valid take, I didn't even think of it. I guess in this day and age of paranoia and school shootings, who knows. I've heard of expulsion from school for less than that.
