Tongue

Partially as an exercise for myself, (I'm learning to use Soundtracker) I recreated music for the Ur-Quan and Kohr-Ah from the original samples. This isn't a remix: instead of keeping the musical ideas but using better samples, I kept the samples and wrote better music with them. Tongue (I still love the original Ur-Quan theme! It's just too short Sad)

Shiver reckons I should get someone to remix these. Anyone up for it? Cool

Will harass the remix people eventually on your behalf if this thread doesn't get their attention. They're a bit lazy, really. That Syreen remix still hasn't been done.

Great music! I have only one small gripe - the links are HTTP 404, as is the whole of your site...

That's strange, because I still can't connect. It's probably specific to me... (yes it doesn't always rain just on you, alephresh) Is it actually possible that connection to a certain site is impossible from a certain area, but possible from other areas!?

Anyway, in the meantime, could someone have mercy on me and mail the remixes to me (my mail address is in my profile), or upload them someplace else? Pretty Please?

Are you using IE? Apparently IE chokes on my site -

also, they're not remixes, as I mentioned in the first post.

Actually, even more strange, I'm using Firefox. Also, thanks for the mail, I'm listening to them at once.

I personally didn't like them that much. The Ur-quan one sounded like a more bland version of the Umgah theme music, while the Khor-ah one was too silent and kind of uninteresting.

I personally always liked the Khor-ah music being the way it was, it just seemed to flow better and went with the Khor-ah race-personality. Your music could work if you reduced some of the silence time, which would make it more suspenseful and less boring.

Parts of the Ur-quan music were sounding really good until they took an unexpected downward or upward turn, thus making me think of a laughing Umgah that had just stolen a Kzer-za dreadnought.

I'm no music expert, this is just my opinion.

my Kohr-Ah music may be quiet, but it's not silent anywhere. Turn up the volume!

I am listening to it right now with all systems at FULL volume. Ah, the tranquility of silence.

Maybe the program you're using doesn't play .xm files properly.

Give him the benefit of the doubt if you want, but he's clearly trolling your thread.

Not a bad UQ reintrepetation in my opinion. I do have critique. The whole sounds kind of "busy." The constant eight notes make the rhythm sound a bit stiff.  Some notes seem to jump off from the musical scale and that's a bit jarring, especially at 00:05-00:06. I hope you get what I'm talking about.. anyhow, it still sounds like Ur-Quan, but a bit frantic and quite desperate - like they were still trying to pose as powerful, but were just about to lose to the Kohr-Ah.. I think having such a change occur in the music in the game might work.

Damn, those samples sound awful. Smiley

Kohr-Ah ambience is a nice bit. I didn't remember the original so I had to listen to it. (content/comm/blackur/blackur.mod right?) The original sounds kinda wierd. Both are more serene than what I'd expect. Which is a spooky effect, I guess. I think the new one feels better to me, staying in a single chord and not having a beat, even if that was sparse in the original.

Had to listen to the Precursor remix as well. Damn these sound clean and sparkly.
